This painting went home with new owners who find Barcelona as magical as I do, and feel certain they’ve been in the very spot I painted. I was wandering all the side streets in the Gothic Quarter at dusk as the lights in shops and cafes came on, watching locals hurry home after their work day. The tiny church just around the corner was signaling its vesper service with bells ringing out and echoing off the surrounding buildings. I hope I captured some of the magic.

Had fun painting at Harrison Brothers last evening. Thanks to those that took a chance on the weather forecast being wrong and came out to see. I’m passing along this video made by my friend Abby Harrison Brothers Hardware that shows some of my pieces but if you want to see them in person they’ll be there all next week!

✨ About Jennifer: ✨

"Art and design has always been a part of Jennifer Mumby’s life. From a young age on her parents’ farm in Tennessee, she was always drawing, playing with color, redecorating her room and making elaborate living spaces for her Barbies. She benefitted from the guidance of great art teachers in her teens as well as in college. Following this path, she earned a communications degree focusing on Advertising, with minors in Art and English. She worked for many years on and off Music Row as a graphic artist and an art director for small ad agencies before going into print production where she worked with clients from Nashville to New York. A new job took Jennifer and her husband John to Atlanta for over 20 years where she rediscovered her love of painting while working in sales in the Home Décor industry. Jennifer learned a lot about product development, merchandising, and interior design through this career shift. She also studied drawing and painting with several with local artists, including Damon Carter, for several years. In the fall of 2019 Jennifer and John relocated to Huntsville AL and they absolutely love their new city!

Jennifer has studied and worked in watercolor, pastel and acrylic, but these days works primarily in oil. She feels the best paintings tell a story, or they inspire the viewer to write their own story related to the image. Her work is as broad as her interests but the paintings and stories she enjoys most involve her love of travel, her love of home, good wine and good friends."

It’s been a blast spending three days learning how to add light in your landscapes from the fabulous Douglas Diehl Carnegie Visual Arts Center. He’s a master of the western landscape and is not only a great painter, he’s also a generous and excellent teacher who makes the class fun! And it was a great group of students too, many of us already knew one another so that made it even more special.

There’s a million things I could be doing in the studio right now (like finishing some pieces for my demo and show next week Aug 20 Harrison Brothers Hardware) but Luna jumped in my lap (which she seldom does) and (promptly) settled down for a nap so…I guess we both will take a break. I certainly can’t disturb her. Hope you’ll come see me next Thursday 4:30-6:30 in the gallery at Harrison Brothers Hardware on the square in Huntsville. I’ll have some new pieces I promise! Check out the nearby Marilyn Evans while you’re there!

Have you got on your Friday Face?!? Here’s some interesting faces from a trip I took to the Palm Springs Art Museum a few months ago. What a great little museum with pieces from pre-historic to modern. Have a great weekend! Palm Springs Art Museum Nikki 🩷

These two pieces were chosen to be part of a special upcoming show FlourishFineArt called “Something’s Afoot”. Each piece in the show is 12x12, and there’s literally something for everyone—no limit to the subject matter! I got a sneak peek yesterday and this will be fun! Come see the show opening night Thursday Aug 6. Doors open to the public at 6:30. Grab your favorite at special pricing for that night only. The show will run for a couple more weeks but the special pricing (and best selection) is for one night only.

So many beautiful spots along the Jersey Shore that caught my eye. I got so much inspiration walking around Ocean Grove with its lovely Victorian homes, tiny tents, charming porches and old-time shops and stores. There were bunnies and biscuits and butterflies too, much to my surprise. So much to see and do on this stretch of the Jersey Shore.
