The GreenRoom unofficially started in 1999 when Judson University (Elgin, IL) canceled their Theatre program. At that time, there were several students interested in performing theatre, so they began to produce their own shows. Their first show was entitled “The GreenRoom”, and it was comprised of several sketches and improv games. After a year of producing their own shows, the group was hired to develop a show for a nearby entertainment complex. The sketch-comedy show Cutting the Nuisance: Testimonies of Annoyance — a show that explored everyday annoyances — was the first official show by GreenRoom Productions. It opened on March 28, 2000 and ran for a couple of weeks. Over the next few years, GreenRoom produced several more original shows while creating and honing an improv show that they planned on touring. The name of the show became “Unscripted”, and it has been GreenRoom’s most popular show to date!
