I am deeply honored to be recognized by Multicultural Solidarity - Long Island for these decades of service to and with* my friends, family neighbors. It's been rewarding to help move the needle with the brave souls out here whose mission it is to foster inclusion and belonging on a diverse Island that has historically kept us apart. I am proud that SEA of Visibility has recently been such an engine for that inclusion.

I am still in awe of the people who select me as an honoree. Their work is the foundation of mine. I don't really know how much I initially did anything intentionslly. I always felt like a gapfiller. Humorously, my colleague said about me in front of me, “Anu does things nobody asks them to do”. I’m not sure how it started, but the service may be something to do with being a hard listener and wanting to act when needed.

The event is tomorrow afternoon—Oct 26th in East Setauket—I would love for some of you to joinme if at all possible. It’s only because* of this community that I am receiving this, and being able to listen to needs..

I wanted to announce the award earlier. I’m sorry I didn’t but I got news the same time on the prognosis on this very skill that I value. Apparently I am officially hard of hearing. I am going through the process of obtaining two hearing aids and would need to do this regularly from now on.

I am not at my best at listening to others at the moment but soon will be. BUT in exchange, as there is always is one, I am more keenly listening to my inner voice.

Thank you to Multicultural Solidarity for recognizing me and the sheer number of volunteers, artists and community members I have worked with for three decades to help bring about social justice through the arts.

I taught a prof development 2day that was in me since my teachers thought I was “unteachable” b/c I couldn't speak English. “COMIC BOOK CLUB: Welcome 2 the Multi-verse” provides a fun resource 2 help teachers 2day & I could ugly cry with relief. 😭🤍❤️‍🩹

OMG OMG! Archikins!! 🤪Fangurling so much! , CEO of Family-owned Archie Comics and art-teacher is an exactly who I would want behind Archie Comics and MORE!!! She understands comics as a strong, engaging path to LITERACY through VISUAL ART and understanding CULTURES!!! I learned English and about Americana through Archie Comics—I read them with my Amar Chitra Katha religious and historical comics in India, along with fun Richie Rich. These comics comprise the bedrock of what is positive in my life now. Archie Comics recognizes their fan base in INDIA too! So great to know this. And finally…NANCY WILL BE ZOOMING INTO my 5-time -funded COMIC BOOK CLUB!! I will try and get her to talk at our COMIC BOOK RELEASE PARTY on Dec 18th .yerbabruja!!
