Supporting Local Artists and Musicians

Supporting Local Artists and Musicians A Movement Supporting Local Artists and Musicians SLAM is an organization that is just getting off the ground.

The idea was developed a couple of years ago, but hasn’t been put into use until recently. The way in which the organization will work has yet to be worked out completely. Hopefully, we will be able to do some things in the tri-state area that will help to promote a stronger music scene, give artists a chance to show there work, help local writers get a start, create venues for musicians to perfor

m, create a network of artists and musicians that can work together and generally improve the arts for all those that enjoy them. As for right now, we can get started by simply getting the word out about what’s already going on in the area. If you know of bands playing, art being shown, readings, book signings or anything else that needs promotion, send a message to our account. We hope to have a calendar up and going online somewhere soon, and we will post the even on our page here. We hope to have a pretty decent following, and we will do whatever we can to help the artists and musicians in the WV-KY-OH Tri-State Area.

I was in town again a couple of weeks ago, and I was able to grab a few photos of William Matheny and his crew at the Pullman Summer Concert Series. Feel free to tag the musicians, share the album, or pass it along for use to others. I didn't get many photos due to the low lighting. The later it go was the more tempting it was to use the flash, but I hate interrupting a performance with one. There are a couple pretty decent photos, though.

It has become clear that we will not be able to continue doing all that we do without some extra help. We are currently seeking individuals who would be interested in helping put together the info we need for our weekend music posts. We could split up the territory we cover, assign specific venues to each volunteer, or come up with another idea. It would only take four or five people a few minutes each to research a smaller chunk of our territory each week. If you're interested, send us a private message. Thanks!

Our intentions were to have a big New Year's Eve post for everyone, but things did not go as planned. It looks like we're not the only ones that fell a little behind over the holidays. This weeks listings are sparse due to a lack of info on band and venue sites. Hopefully everyone will be running at full steam again next week. We hope everyone had a safe, happy New Year's Eve!
