Paintings by Marna Marna Schoenwald is a Artist in Huntington, NY Marna Schoenwald began her artistic life as a dancer and then a choreographer.

She studied Modern Dance in the technique of Martha Graham. The training was arduous and exacting. While choreographing, she created images in space, using bodies, sounds and colors that streaked across the stage or were still will the energy continued to expand. The transition to painting was fairly seamless and Schoenwald found that paints provide a multitude of possibilities for expressing the

deeper layers of her inner life. The more mystical and spiritual layers naturally find their way through her brushes and onto the canvas and papers. A strong sense of movement is embodied in Schoenwald’s art creating trees that extend off the canvas and lines that plunge or swoop into the surroundings inviting the viewers to experience a visual and physical provided a venue that both captures and deepens the creative process. Paintings created by Marna include landscapes, cityscapes, politicalscapes, and spiritualscapes, as well as various themed series including “The “Cogitate Series in Blue” and “Daydreams” and in progress the “Moving on Canvas Series,” and “Daughters Fly Series.” Marna Schoenwald is a self-taught artist still emerging and finding her place in the art world. Description of Exhibited Work

“The Cogitate Series in Blue”
Marna Schoenwald began the “The Cogitate Series” in June of 2011. The series reflects the painter’s desire to fuse the cerebral and the emotional aspects of her life. The series became more substantial as each new canvas was created with the blue greens and whites. Sparks and shadows combine to recreate the process of Cogitating. Cogitate, to think to ponder to reflect.
“Daughters Fly Series”
The “Daughters Fly Series” is based on a quote from Gergory McGuires book “Out of Oz.” Many people are aware of the first book which is now the Broadway play “Wicked.” The quote is from the fourth and last book of his series. “Daughters. The girls should have been able to fly above the flaming waters. But who could teach daughters to fly? Parents were by definition earthbound, grub eaters, feeding in their own coffins, by dint of being parents.” This quote has inspired works that are all these things but has also taken me beyond the quote as I have learned that a parent can and must fly again after their daughters and sons learn to fly on their own. Perhaps even take a few flights together.

I am presently in the process of moving my studio back into my home. I believe that the serene sense that home gives me will allow my paintings to become more interesting, allow me to take more risks and allow me to paint my comfort paintings of trees and moons. I am hoping that my colors will shine as they have in the past. That is my reason for moving my studio back home. And i can paint in the middle of the night or 5 am. And. the space has become available once again.
