Image Critique Night At The HCC

This coming Tuesday, September 24th, 2024, starting at 7:30 PM at the Huntington Public Library (338 Main Street) the Huntington Camera Club (HCC) will be having an Image Critique Night. Only paid up HCC Members can participate but the public is welcome to join us and see what we are all about.

Founded in 1966, the HCC is one of the oldest and largest camera clubs in the NY Metro area. We provide beginning and advanced photographers with an opportunity to improve their photographic skills and to meet others with similar interests. We do so by holding weekly meetings (every Tuesday, downstairs at the Huntington Library on Main Street, opposite Panera Bread) with lectures, presentations, critiques, judged photo competitions, mentoring, field trips and community outreach events.

Membership is open to everyone with an interest in photography. For more information about the HCC, visit www.hccny.org

I often encounter people who struggle to get the photos they can see in their mind's eye, but just cannot get their camera to cooperate in crafting their vision. They usually blame their camera and think, "I just need a better, more expensive camera...or maybe a new lens - That'll solve the problem". More often than not, it's not the camera, it's not the lens, but it is their lack of experience, knowledge or heaven forbid, their lack of inspiration!

How does one gain more knowledge, experience and inspiration? Well, there's many ways. You could take photography class, watch YouTube videos on photography, go on a photography workshop, attend seminars, read books (remember that?!) or just experiment and practice, practice, practice. Thankfully, there's lots of ways to learn!

My tip for today though, is consider joining your local camera or photography club. I've been a member of the Huntington Camera Club - Huntington, NY for nearly 15 years. While there, I've learned so much from my fellow photographers. I've made many dear and, what I would consider, lifelong friends here. I've traveled and had experiences with these friends I never would have dreamed of on my own. They inspire me. They challenge me. They support me. They are some of the finest, most generous people I've ever known. We have a ton of fun together, and together, we make each other the best photographers we can be. It's truly a special group!

Why am I posting this? Well, I want to share all the goodness that is the HCC (Huntington Camera Club). I want you to know that there is a wonderful, local resource, for you to improve your photography, make new friends and get a ton of joy out of your photography journey.

The HCC is about to begin its new club year, which runs from September to June. Believe it or not, this will be the club's 58th year in existence! We meet most every Tuesday evening at the Huntington Public Library on Main St. from 7:30-9pm. We are about 100 members strong, but always looking to welcome new members, at any experience level, to our photography family! You don't need a fancy camera. Many of our members just use their phones to take pictures - Imagine that! Despite the name of the club, it's really not about the camera. It's about the friendship, the sharing of knowledge, support, inspiration and celebrating the joy of photography!

You can learn more here: www.hccny.org or just send me a PM. I'm always happy to talk about photography!
