Junior Theatre Festival auditions- Thursday, June 18, 5:30-7:30pm.

If you are unable to attend the auditions scheduled for June 18, you may audition following the JTF Informational Meeting on Thursday, June 11, beginning at approximately 6:15–6:30 p.m.

If you need to audition on June 11 or would like to make alternative arrangements, please email [email protected] in advance.

Auditions Today-

Saturday, April 18, 10:00 am-3:00 pm
First United Methodist Church
1124 5th Avenue, Huntington, WV

Students entering 6th grade in the fall, through current high school seniors, are encouraged to audition.

Please prepare 32-64 bars (approximately 60 seconds) of a musical theatre song. Bring your accompaniment track on a smartphone, tablet, or MP3 player, as a piano accompanist will not be provided. A Bluetooth speaker will be available. Please do not audition a ca****la.
Wear clothing and footwear suitable for a dance audition, as all actors should be prepared to learn a short dance combination.

During the final portion of auditions, participants may be asked to read scenes from the show.

Rehearsals will begin in late May/early June.

If you have questions about the show or rehearsal schedule, please don't hesitate to reach out.

You can attend our theatre camp and/or mini fest and be in the show.

Once on This Island Characters
This show is an ensemble show. The whole cast will be on stage most of the time telling the story.

Mama Euralie- Mama is the symbolic mother of us all. She is loving, practical, funny, and earthy.

Tonton Julian- Tonton is the loving father to his adopted daughter, Ti Moune. Tonton is strong, practical, and supportive. He faces the difficult task of letting Ti Moune chase her dreams, even if it means he may never see the daughter he loves again.

Little Girl / Little Ti Moune / Peasant Girl- a frightened girl, as well as a spunky, young girl who enjoys running and playing around.

Ti Moune- Ti Moune is the focus of our story and is featured in solo songs and dance.

Daniel is the leading male character in Once On This Island JR.

Daniel's Son- This is a very small walk-on part at the very end of the show.

Gatekeeper - This role can be portrayed by a male or a female, but they need a booming voice and a strong stature.

Daniel’s father is not sympathetic or understanding of his son's wishes.

Andrea- Andrea is Daniel's refined and beautiful fiancée. Daniel and Andrea have been promised to each other by their parents since birth. She is sophisticated, educated, and the exact opposite of Ti Moune.

Papa Ge- Papa Ge is described as "the sly demon of death." He/she is also the closest thing to a "bad guy". in Once On This Island Junior.

Asaka- Asaka is the Goddess of the Earth and sings one of the most popular and fun songs of the show, "Mama Will Provide."

Agwe- Agwe is the God of Water. He or she has a solo early in the show that requires an excellent voice ("Rain").

Erzulie- Erzulie is the triumphant Goddess of Love.

Choir Of Storytellers - (Peasants, Villagers, Guests, Grands Hommes) Ensemble has the opportunity to perform many roles, transforming from Peasants to wealthy Grands Hommes.

Gossipers- part of the ensemble of Storytellers who narrate and drive the action. They act as a chorus, spreading rumors.
