This week's Artist Profile for the 11th Annual Fly In Festival is the
Chris Davis Band . No stranger to the Fly In Festival, Chris Davis from Russell, KY has performed on the Fly In Stages with several great bands over the years.
"The heartbeat of Classic Bluegrass Reinvented"
A Third Generation Bluegrass Musician, Chris Davis is originally from Fairborn, Ohio and now makes his home in Russell, Kentucky. He has been playing bluegrass music, professionally, for over 25 years with many artists such as Larry Sparks, Alecia Nugent, Junior Sisk, Larry Cordle, The Grascals and until 2025, with Joe Mullins and the Radio Ramblers. 2026 started Chris' venture as a solo Artist, with the Chris Davis Band. He has also played the Grand Ole Opry and toured as a member of country music's Diamond Rio.
His love for bluegrass music started with a family band called The Davis Brothers. This band featured his grandpa, Elzie, his dad, Danny, and his brother, Wes. This is when the seeds of bluegrass were sown and the love for bluegrass music is now flourishing.
Chris has a two sons, and a daughter. His oldest son, Gibson, is quite the banjo player and has also been on the Bluegrass Circuit with various bands for the past 5 years.
Suffice it to say, music runs deep in this family.

Fly In Festival Main Stage
FRIDAY JULY 24th at 7:00 pm !!
The award-winning duo of Kenny & Amanda Smith have cultivated a reputation of delivering fresh, heartfelt, bluegrass music to stages worldwide for nearly two decades. Known for sincere vocals and stellar musicianship, Kenny & Amanda Smith are one of the most beloved husband-and-wife teams in acoustic music. Partners in both life and in music, Kenny and Amanda met at a bluegrass festival in the late nineties, while Kenny was performing with the legendary bluegrass group, The Lonesome River Band. Although a young man, Kenny already had a reputation as an ace guitarist, having twice been named Guitar Player of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA). Amanda had grown up singing in churches and local talent competitions, and her star was quickly rising in the bluegrass community. The two forged a bond over their love for bluegrass music and their dedication to their Christian faith, creating a connection that resulted in lifetime love for the two of them, and beautiful music for the world. Combining fresh bluegrass songs with Amanda Smith’s passionate singing and Kenny Smith’s inventive guitar work, has proved a winning combination among fans and critics alike. The husband and wife team released their debut album in 2001, and haven’t looked back. Kenny & Amanda Smith were quickly embraced by the bluegrass community, and were named Emerging Artist of the Year by the IBMA in 2003. Amanda Smith was named IBMA Female Vocalist of the Year in 2014, while the duo has received numerous nominations from the IBMA, SPBGMA and Dove awards throughout the years as well. Kenny’s reputation as one of the most influential flat-picking guitarists of his generation, makes him one of the most in-demand bluegrass guitar players in the industry.

DAVE EVANS EXPERIENCE. If you're a fan of Bluegrass Music, then you are definitely a Dave Evans Fan .... This will be a very special collaborative Tribute Show to the Music & Life of Dave Evans, featuring Dave's Son, Tracy Evans on Vocals & Guitar, Don Rigsby, who produced & recorded with Dave, on Fiddle & Vocals, Tom Feller of the famous Boys from Indiana lineage on Mandolin & Vocals, Brandon Fox on Banjo, & Tim Corbett on Bass. This Special Show will take place on SATURDAY JULY 25th of the Fly In Festival at 6:00 pm. Don't Miss it !!
William "Dave" Evans (July 24, 1950 - June 26, 2017) was a tenor singer, banjo player, composer, and bluegrass band leader. He was noted for his powerful tenor vocal range and for his style which bridged traditional and contemporary bluegrass. Notable songs written by Evans include "One Loaf of Bread," "Highway 52," "99 Years is Almost for Life," and "Be Proud of the Grey in Your Hair".
Dave Evans grew up in Ohio. At age eight, Evans was introduced to the banjo by his father who played old time banjo, but Evans preferred the Earl Scruggs style of playing. In his teens, he began singing and writing songs. Evans' first professional band was in 1968, with Earl Taylor and the Stoney Mountain Boys. In 1972, Evans joined Larry Sparks and the Lonesome Ramblers. He spent three years with Sparks, then worked with other acts such as the Goins Brothers, Red Allen and the Kentuckians, and The Boys From Indiana, Lillie Mae, and the Dixie Gospelaires. In 1978, Evans formed his own band: Dave Evans and The River Bend. Initially they recorded for the Vetco label in Cincinnati, then Evans recorded nine albums for Rebel Records with his band and as a solo artist. In 2010, Evans announced his retirement from touring due to health issues and he passed away on June 26, 2017.
