We just gave Taylor this artwork as birthday gift from me and Dave.

Dave suggested the surfboard shape with one of my paintings on it and Taylor only asked for a beach scene with soft colors so I designed the composition with our plan for her to use it as a growth chart to mark Tatum's height over the years.

made the solid wood surfboard cutout as my canvas and I spent many hours in my studio getting the board prepped, painted and sealed so it can last for years to come.

Now that we just found out they will be moving out of state I am even more happy we made this special artwork so can take this little piece of California with them where they go.

Cheers to a bright future ahead my sweet girls. I can't wait to watch your love grow 💗🌅🥰

I was interviewed by Canvas Rebel recently and they asked me to speak about a meaningful piece of art I have made so I shared the story about my recent MSA project that turned into my Malibu Lilly painting. See my last posts for images of the artwork.

This piece was very meaningful and served a lot of purposes, but most importantly it helped me as a therapeutic practice to work through the grief I experienced on so many levels this year.

This one small canvas is filled with endless amounts of love 🐶❤️🌊

I was still in shock from the fires and mudslides in Malibu/LA when this project started. I was also mourning the loss of my sweet dog Lilly and I didn't know if or when we'd be able to go back to our home away from home in Malibu.

Then I got a call from our surf club asking me to make a painting they could use as a graphic for the MSA Classic Invitational.

I was ecstatic to learn our beach was open and the annual surf competition was still in the works for 2025. I was also honored by the request for my art.

I began digging through years of my pictures of Malibu and found a few a great shots with the iconic views I had in mind. I hunkered down in the studio working on 3 canvases for weeks before finally deciding on this composition for the final piece.

The best part was that my reference image was a picture of Lilly on the beach in Malibu so I had her with me in spirit the whole time.

I finished the background first and added text and a custom frame for the MSA graphic (to be released at a later date).

Yesterday, I finally added Lilly laying on the beach and now today we are preparing to return her ashes to our mother ocean at her favorite beach in Malibu. Lilly's memory will live on with all of us forever ❤️🐶❤️

Say hello to my OG Dreamcatcher!

This old surfboard was pretty beat up when I got it, but I saved it from going to a landfill and turned it into a canvas to practice my paint pen skills when I first started painting surfboards many years ago.

The tail and nose were smashed so we just cut em off and sealed them with fiberglass to make it into a one-of-kind canvas for this art piece. This fiberglass step was handled professionally by my man at DMZ Surfboards (but of course!)

After many years of being hidden away in the studio I just recently repainted and prepared her for display.

What do you think?

Its always been a sentimental piece for me, tied to a weird but special time in our history, as I merged my roots in Oklahoma with a whole new life in Southern California. At long last it's now available for my collectors!

I'm not quite sure about the price, but... contact me if you're interested and make me an offer. Otherwise I'm happy to just keep her in my private collection.
