❤️ Made by Brandie: A Little Progress Goes a Long Way! ❤️

Today was another one of those days where a lot of little pieces came together! ✂️🧵

❤️ I got all the red satin playing-card pieces sewn together that I had fabric for! I still need to pick up more red fabric, and then it’s on to the black fabric for the alternating side.

🎭 We got the rest of the ready-to-wear costume pieces ordered, so that’s another thing checked off the list!

👗 Courtney’s skirt is officially underway! We got the fabric gathered and started putting things together. She still has some dyeing to do to get the stripes just the way she wants them, and we need to track down my lace and dye it to the right shade, too. There are still plenty of little details to work out, but it’s exciting to see things taking shape!

All of this while dealing with AC issues, too! 🥵 Hopefully, that gets fixed tomorrow, and we can get back to creating in a more comfortable environment.

It’s amazing how much progress you can make when you keep chipping away at a project, even when the day doesn’t go quite as planned. ❤️

❤️♠️ Made by Brandie: Progress, Paint & a Little Patience! 🎨🧵

Today was one of those days where I had plans to get a LOT done!

I managed to chain stitch a bunch of pieces for Bell’s skirt and cut out a whole bunch of hearts for her playing-cards on her costume before sneaking in a nap. Sometimes you just have to recharge the batteries! 😂

Then Bell and I headed to the store to pick up paint for all our cardboard and papier-mâché projects. 🎨 Wonderland is taking over, and there’s still plenty to do!

Unfortunately, my air-conditioning decided to stop cooperating, which made it a little difficult to keep going and be as productive as I had hoped. 🥵 Apparently, even the house wants to make sure I take breaks!

We still got some parts and pieces done, though, and I’ll take that as a win. Little by little, Wonderland is coming together!

❤️♠️ Made by Brandie: A Little Wonderland Chaos! 🐇☕

I missed posting yesterday, but that doesn’t mean things have been quiet around here! 😂

I’ve officially started sewing for the Queen of Hearts, and while I’m not entirely sure I’m loving the direction it’s going just yet, we’re going to keep working on it and see where it takes us! 👑❤️ Sometimes you have to trust the process… even when the process has you questioning your decisions. 😉

Courtney got more papier-mâché done, and I think today we’re tackling the cardboard cutouts and figuring out how all these Wonderland pieces are going to come together for trunk-or-treat!

So yes, we’re officially in Alice in Wonderland mode over here! 🐇🍄☕🎩

The only problem? My Quilt of Valor is hanging on the wall, calling my name, and reminding me that I have other projects I desperately want to work on, too!

Is it too much to ask for three versions of myself? One to sew costumes, one to quilt, and one to handle all the other things on my ever-growing creative to-do list? 😂😂

🌙 Today’s Made by Brandie update is a little late… but creativity doesn’t exactly run on a schedule! 😂🧵

Today we officially got our trunk-or-treat project list together, and let me tell you… we have a PLAN! 🎃🍄☕️

Courtney finished a mushroom top made from papier-mâché today, and her next assignment includes another mushroom, teacups, and saucers! We also figured out which wooden pieces we need cut and mapped out a couple more cardboard and poster board projects.

Oh, and I managed to squeeze in a little more of my Quilt of Valor, too. ❤️🇺🇸 It’s amazing how slowly a quilt progresses when you only get to work on it about once a week!

Here’s the reality: I have FOUR full costumes to pull together, plus all our trunk decorations, in just 16 days. 😅 Suddenly, weekends are looking VERY precious!

There will be plenty of crafting, sewing, painting, and probably a few moments of wondering what on earth I was thinking when I signed up for all of this. But that’s part of the fun, right?

Now I need your help with a very important question! 👇

A little creative chaos, a little everyday rhythm, and a whole lot of making. 🧵✨

Today’s behind-the-scenes look at Made by Brandie headquarters involves balancing the practical with the whimsical. Between me running batches of laundry, Courtney has been elbows-deep in papier-mâché! 🎨🧺

It's all part of the process as we prepare for our Alice in Wonderland themed Trunk or Treat! That will be on display on 10/24 at the church🃏🎩

The signs for the display are officially decided, and now comes the best part: picking out the perfect storybook lettering to bring it all together.

Since I'm always looking at the world through a maker's lens, I'm drawing so much inspiration from the classic details of the story.

Today was one of those days where I was running on fumes… and somehow still managed to squeeze a little bit of everything into it. 😂

I struggled to stay awake at my real job today after another not-so-great night of sleep, but then I got the BEST surprise at lunch. My sister and Nana stopped by! They were supposed to take Courtney on a boat tour, but realized that was actually tomorrow, so instead I got some unexpected time with them. We went through clothes my sister no longer fits, and honestly, it was a lot of fun. ❤️

I also got to share a little more about Made by Brandie with my Nana and sister, and they seemed genuinely excited about the idea. That gave me a little boost. There’s something really encouraging about getting to explain what I’m building to people who know me and having them get excited about it too.

Then came small group, and I was actually pretty excited because I had an inquiry about two potential new members! I added them to the group, so hopefully we’ll get to meet them in a couple of weeks. I would LOVE to see our little sewing group grow.

Of course, I spent small group time sewing too… and yes, this Quilt of Valor is STILL on my wall. 😂 These last few rows are taking me much longer than I anticipated. I think I may have underestimated just how tired I am lately. But I’m getting there, one row at a time.

We also got the glue for the paper mâché mushrooms for our Alice in Wonderland trunk-or-treat decorations! We have some other ideas floating around too. Now we just have to bring them to life. 😂

Then I had dinner, and watched some TV with my eyes closed. Does that count as watching? 🤔😂

And honestly? Knowing how tired I am, I actually feel like today was a really productive day.

I just want the energy to do all the things I WANT to do. There are so many ideas in my head, projects on my list, and things I’m excited about. I’m really hoping this new normal I’ve been working toward eventually kicks in, because I have a feeling I’m going to have a LOT of things to make when it does. ❤️🧵

For now, though… I’m calling today a win.

Some days the sewing machine gets all the attention… and some days the dogs win. 😂❤️

Today was a really long one. I didn’t sleep much last night, had a good heart-to-heart with my stepdaughter, and somehow an impromptu trip has been added to my already-crazy next couple of weeks. ✈️

So tonight’s Made by Brandie update is dinner, TV, and dog snuggles. And honestly, I’m pretty okay with that. ❤️

Tomorrow is small group night, so we’ll see what happens there! I’m not sure if either of my ladies will be able to make it this week, but I’ll be there with fabric in hand either way. 😊

Sometimes building this little business means sewing until midnight.

And sometimes it means knowing when to sit down, breathe, and enjoy the people (and furry goombas) who make all the craziness worth it.

The rows are all sewn! 🇺🇸🧵

Now I get to sew all those rows together… and hopefully turn this into a finished quilt top!

I spent a good portion of this morning getting very well acquainted with my seam ripper. 😂 Apparently, we had some things to discuss.

I’m going to see if I can finish this Quilt of Valor today. I’m getting excited because I cannot wait to get the next project up on my wall!

There’s just something so satisfying about watching all those individual pieces come together into something special. ❤️🧵

My seam ripper and I got far too well acquainted this morning. 😂

I was working on a Quilt of Valor and, well… let’s just say things did not go exactly according to plan. Sometimes quilting is less “look at this beautiful progress!” and more “how did I get HERE and how fast can I undo it?” 🤦‍♀️🧵

Thankfully, my oldest daughter came to my rescue and saved me from myself with a much-needed trip to the mall. Because sometimes the best quilting solution is apparently… shopping. 😂🛍️

Back to the sewing table soon. The Quilt of Valor isn’t going to finish itself! ❤️🤍💙

Today was all about celebrating my oldest daughter turning 23! 🥳💕

After my real job, we headed out for dinner at a local ramen place, then picked up the supplies for her birthday cake. Tomorrow we’ll be making her request: Black Forest cake, a household favorite around here! 🍒🍫🎂

And the birthday fun doesn’t stop there… tomorrow we’re going shopping and hitting Karaoke! 🎤😂

I’m pretty sure 23 deserves a whole weekend of celebrating, don’t you think? ❤️
