My version of a locket.

Years ago :) sent me a pile of family gemstones to build into a queen’s ring. I did — it’s epic, ask her to see it. But there were leftover stones. We spent a couple years going back and forth on what to do with them — spiked earrings? No. A drop pendant? Also no.

We landed on my signature piece: a lil enameled bomb locket in 18k gold, with a gemstone pendant she can wear separately that matches the ring. Enameling — melting glass onto metal in a kiln — is hard enough without the metal being 18k. 😬

Is the blue on the pendant glass? Yes.
Is the texture carved with diamond tools? Yes.
Am I an awesome enamelist? Hell yes.

Thank you :) for trusting me with your family heirlooms — now you’ve got a new one, made from all the old ones.

Baby rattle…ring?

Every small stone moves and shakes with the wearer — based on an Edwardian halo and a baby’s rattle. The amethyst sits at the center. Everything orbiting it is in motion.

I forget that I’ve been making art for 13 years.

A collector took me to breakfast to talk about my work and look at drawings of what I’m currently making. That sent me into my archive.

I love going back to them — touching the paper, seeing my thinking splayed out in lines and color, visiting the places I kept returning to again and again.

Looking at them fresh I can make new connections. The dialogue between old work and new work is one of my favorite parts of this practice.

This is a small collection of them.

The stone was lost before we could use it.

lizzieahhh came to me wanting to use a family heirloom topaz. When it was lost we didn’t give up — we started over together. Over several months we talked about what she actually wanted. Modern, architectural, minimal. She kept coming back to the decorative Art Deco buildings in Detroit.

We tried different stones, different layouts. That process is my favorite part of commission work — watching someone discover what they want by looking at jewelry as a lens for it.

We landed on a toi et moi. The dome is flush set with confetti diamonds, every stone a different cut. The other side is a rutilated orange topaz from Columbia Gem House — the inclusions inside look like tiny sparkling diamonds.

This one meant something to both of us.
