Current exhibition open through June 26, Fri-Sun, 1-5pm. Lightforms is a center for cultural renewal that brings creative artists and their artwork into the public domain in innovative ways that stimulate dialogue around the inner and outer challenges of our time and attempts to serve the spiritual needs of human beings in their daily lives. The artists of Lightforms strive to create works of art, as well as new cultural and social forms, that allow the spiritual in art to serve the ongoing progressive evolution of the world, human society, and each individual. Lightforms is dedicated to accessibility, diversity and community involvement.

We are excited to welcome backimprovisational group Music for Furniture, to perform a concert at Lightforms.

Music for Furniture is made up of Dan Kirkhus, Jimmy Garver, Rodney Alan Greenblat, Kenji Garland, and David Garland.

David Garland, whose exhibition of photography is currently on view at Lightforms, has worked and collaborated with the likes of Patti Smith, Sean Ono Lennon, Yoko Ono, Meredith Monk, Sufjan Stevens, John Zorn, and many more.

With his multi-instumental scorings and innovative collaborators, Garland has issued a dozen unique recorded albums from the 1980s and on, both under his own name as well as with the bands Garlands and Music for Furniture.

Peter Elsner approaches art as a form of research to “penetrate deeper into the different levels of nature and spirit,” making the invisible visible. His multimedia practice, which includes photography, performance, digital art, and installation, centers on transformation and metamorphosis.

Saturday at 7pm: A performance by Laurie Portcarrero with music by Nat Drake.

In Rudolf Steiner’s second Mystery Drama, familiar characters face new trials of soul, past-life connections, and the intensifying influence of Lucifer and Ahriman as their karmic ties unfold.

Actress Laurie Portocarrero brings the drama to life in a ninety-minute storytelling performance amid the current exhibition at Lightforms.

Tomorrow at 7pm! Since 1986, painter Rick Harlow has spent much of his life among Indigenous peoples of Colombia, including the Kogui, Arhuaco, and Wiwa of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. His work is informed by teachings of the Mamos and their understanding of “The Invisible World”—the living energy that permeates all things. In this lecture, Harlow will share more about these experiences and the ideas behind his paintings, followed by questions.

Join us tomorrow (Thursday) at 4:30pm for a presentation on Nonviolent Communication (NVC) with Gail McManus!

Gail McManus is a communications counselor and mediator with training in Nonviolent Communication (NVC), New York State mediation, psychosynthesis, spiritual psychology, biographical counseling, and Waldorf education.

NVC, developed by Marshall Rosenberg, focuses on observation, feelings, needs, empathic listening, and clear requests to support understanding and constructive conflict resolution.

In addition to this presentation, Gail will offer three workshops on NVC on Oct 24, Nov 7, and Nov 21: all Saturdays from 10:30am-1pm at Lightforms.

Exhibition view of some of the large-scale, immersive paintings by Rick Harlow currently on view at Lightforms through October 25. "Painting the Invisible World" features 20 paintings by Rick Harlow, ranging from 14x18 inches all the way to 120x79 inches. Working on the floor, Harlow begins each canvas by splattering droplets of paint from a few feet above the surface, “letting gravity take over,” then returns to hand-paint individual dots, fine-tuning the work so that its layered colors interact to create a shifting energy field.

Harlow will give a lecture on Fri, Oct 9 at 7pm. The exhibition is on view Thur-Sun, 1-5pm, each week.
