Philip came to me today,
and said it was time to go.
I looked at him and smiled,
as I whispered that, "I know."

I then turned and looked behind me,
and seen I was asleep.
All my Family were around me,
and I could hear them weep.

I gently touched each shoulder,
with Philip by my side.
Then I turned away and walked,
with My Angel guide.

Philip held my hand,
as he lead the way,
to a world where Kings and Queens,
are Monarchs every day.

I was given a crown to wear,
or a Halo known by some.
The difference is up here,
they are worn by everyone.

I felt a sense of peace,
my reign had seen its end.
70 years I had served my Country,
as the peoples' friend.

Thank you for the years,
for all your time and love.
Now I am one of two again,
in our Palace up above.

Vintage Southwest Saguaro Wood Tripod Gueridon

This interesting and unusual table made in the southwest circa 1930 is constructed of Saguaro wood, a kind of slow-growing dense cactus with a distinctive outer casing that is used for decorative display. The form is an extension of the mission movement which started in California, Mexico and the southwest as a simple need to furnish through local craftsmen homes and public spaces with natural local materials The tripod base used upside down is the direct form of the cactus. A decoratively shaped piece has been added to the base as a terminus and the knotty pine top is bordered in saguaro with pine supports creating the gueridon. Made as a local distinctive form this kind of furniture is similar in nature to tramp art furniture, Adirondack furniture or folk art, etc. Rarely seen in the east it is most common in camps and lodges in the southwest and California but is still to this day being made in many forms by hand from local craftsmen.

Carved Vicenza Stone Urn Center Table

This large carved Vicenza urn now used with a glass top to create a center table is of an impressive size. The table would be perfect in a modern interior with a classical bent. The urn has a nice surface and patina and the slight irregularities of the carving give the table a sense of age and texture. The glass top added to make it a table is half inch thick.

Pair of 19th Century French Faux Bamboo Large Cabinets

This exceptional pair of cabinets was made circa 1880 in France and are crafted of pine and made to resemble bamboo. During the late 19th century bamboo an exotic and foreign material was very prized as a symbol of colonial power and world success. The aesthetics movements interest in Japanese products and the influx of these goods into France and England created a style of furniture that is very similar in both countries. This pair made with highly figured wood is then edged in wood turned to imitate bamboo. The upper sections are glazed for display or book storage and contain two shelves creating three separate sections while the lower section houses closed doors with a shelf. The cabinet sections are separated by a flat surface that is unenclosed as the upper cabinets step back from the larger lower section. The lower section contains two drawers as well above the doors. The doors are finished in faux bamboo diamonds set onto the surface of the door within the out frame. Both cabinets retain the original finish and surface and both cabinets are painted white inside the glazed section setting off whatever is displayed there. It is unusual to find these in pairs and in original finish.

Vintage Baroque Sea Life Arrangements in the Manner of Tony Duquette

These incredible Baroque style arrangements were made most likely in the late 1950s. They appear to have been made by the great artist, jewelry designer, set decorator and decorator Tony Duquette. The arrangements are based within turned and polychrome wooden urns that rest on marble bases. The arrangements are a match left and right pair that issue from elaborately conceived shell ornaments that center on a large cut and faceted crystal amber colored round brilliant jewel that has above it dangling down from a real natural amber bead seed pearls in descending order of sizes. Worked in among these shells and jewels are miniature glass sea life ornaments. Rising from this section natural and painted sea fans extend upwards and these fans are decorated with many dangling seed pearls and further cut crystal jewels and rhinestone ornaments all strung on gilded wire. The centerpiece of each ornament is a small poly-chrome actual lobster done in rich lacquered shades of green and coral reds onto the fans spreading surface fully articulated.

Pair of Mahogany and Brass Inlaid Russian Console Tables
This fine pair of tables from the early 20th century are made of fine-grained mahogany and are lavishly inlaid with brass trim and panels in a typical Russian neoclassic pattern. These consoles are perfect for the display of singular collections or objects if importance with the stepped sections that resemble platforms or stages. Composed of two D shaped sections divided by brass inlaid columns finished off in capitals and bases also of brass the series of raised platforms elongate the profile upwards making them seem large and commanding. The pair retains an old finish with some sun bleaching bringing out a rich mellow surface. Likewise, we have refrained from polishing the brass liking the old mellow surface to a dazzling totally refinished look. These tables were made in Russia at a time when material and craftsmen still remembered the imperial days and strived to rival earlier craftsmen.

Ancient Grecco-Roman Bronze Figure of Isis/ Aphrodite from Second Century B C
This fine ancient bronze statue of Isis/Aphrodite, a syncretistic goddess of Hellenistic origin combines, the Egyptian goddess Isis with the Greek goddess Aphrodite. Created between the second century BC and the first century AD. This figure is based on the great figures of the goddess Aphrodite produced in a classical style of the 4th century BC inspired by the Aphrodite of Cindos modeled by Praxiteles which was considered by Pliny the Elder to be one of the finest statues in the world at the time. The combination of the goddesses is seen in the Fine Greek proportion of the buttock, hips and the facial features the very essence of the classical female figure combined with the diadem and sistrum of the Egyptian goddess. In this figure, the goddess is shown standing n**e with her weight on her left leg and her right arm bent at the elbow, with hand raised to hold the sistrum. This object comes with detailed photocopies of the purchase papers and information from the seller to the buyer and is shown on that firm's website in archived material as having been sold by the firm who has an international reputation.

17th Century English Leather Travel Trunk on Later Stand

This interesting period trunk, circa 1680-1700 is constructed of wood that has been banded in iron then covered with embossed leather and brass tacks and spandrels creating a decorative and strong travel box for a gentleman’s possessions. The trunks decorative elements contain birds, squirrels, flowers and arabesques. All the edges are bound in iron and there is iron strapping under the leather to reinforce the frame. With large locks, the truck would have spoken to a gentleman's status when he traveled. The interior is lined with what we believe to be almost its original certainly 18th-century paper showing its long service as a travel and storage truck. The stand made in the 1920s to more fully appreciate the trunk is in walnut and was custom-made to set the trunk on. The Stand has some gilded and polychromed shield decorative elements lining up with the lock plates and are present on three sides of the stand. The style of the stand is a combination of Jacobean and Elizabethan forms but works well with the trunk and was most likely made in England before the piece was imported to this country. The piece would look great at the end of a bed and is large enough to house bed clothes or whatever a client might need.

Antique Hide Covered Carved Wood Hobby Horse from The Schwarz Toy Bazaar

This rare survivor of the F. A. O. Schwarz Toy Bazaar comes from an early period in the firm's history. The labeled horse was produced before 1889. The company was founded in 1862 by Fredric August Otto Schwarz in conjunction with his brothers in Baltimore of that year. Other retail stores in Philadelphia and Boston soon followed them ultimately one in New York City in 1870. The initials of the funder F. A. O. was added to the company and its labels in 1889. This horse is made of wood covered in straw then burlap then covered in cow or horsehide. Its saddle and reins and tack are all leather while the bit and stirrups are metal. The horse has inset glass eyes and rests on a metal leaver which allows it to rock back and forth on the grain painted original 19th century stand. This amazing survivor of a privileged child's toy is in exceptional condition but still obviously having been played with enough to show wear and use expected for its age.

Japanese Cast Bronze Meiji Period Incense Burner

This large-scale incense burner was made in the Meiji period in Japanese history. Cast between 1868 and 1900 the censer is topped with a phoenix resting on an open work cloud bordered lid. The body of the censer is cast with foliage, birds and branches meandering around the bulbous form that is then raised up on three legs cast with stylized elephant heads set alternating with lambrequins. The bronze is a rich chocolate brown patina with nice wear and rub-throughs.
This period in history for Japan represented an enormous change in the country's daily life and its world relationships. With the end of the Tokugawa Shogunate and thus the Edo Period in 1876 the new emperor's reign and the country's change over from a feudal closed system to a more westernized government produced a completely new outlook on social norms, internal politics, the economy, military rule, and custom as well as foreign relationships. This created a class of people looking for new ways to express themselves, the need for artists to create export wears and for the reinterpretation of crafts once honed to that old closed military system. This is a good example of those wears made for domestic use and decorative western consumption that created a rage in France, England and America helping to usher in the Aesthetics Movement and ultimately a revolution in how fine artists saw the world because of woodblock prints creating the beginnings of the modern movement.

Large 18th Century French Tole Urn

This large decorative tole urn was made in France, circa 1780 under the reign of Louis XVI. The piece is done in the neoclassical style as a lidded urn with large handles. The elongated form is topped with a cascading series of ice cycle shapes that again appear at the shoulder of the urn.
At the socal of the urn a series of palm leaves encircle the form raised from the ground. The whole is set up on a typical rounded spreading bull nose rimmed base. The body of the urn is marbelized with the top and base of a deep green ground color and all the raised sections and decorative areas picked out in a light green and a saffron-colored paint. The surface has a lovely old patina and a large amount of the color and decoration remains giving a deep contrast making the urn very desirable.

19th Century French Lighthouse Animated Industrial Clock by Guilmet

This lighthouse clock crafted by Andre Romain Guilmet in Paris, circa 1880 is made of bronze, copper and was silvered in areas. The clock works with an eight-day movement housed in the top or lighthouse section and is opposed by a barometer within the revolving top. Between each dial is a thermometer, one for centigrade and one for Fahrenheit. The clocks revolving mechanism works through a geared shaft and winding mechanism located at the base. Examples of this form can be found in all silvered bronze with gilded details, a gilded body with silver details, patinated body with silvered and polished bronze details and polished bronze with silver details.
The form is represented here as the lighthouse within a platform with a walkway and decorative railing around the walk, this rests on the lighthouse tower cast with stonework, doors and windows. As this example has no evidence of gilding or silvering to the larger body we assume it was one of the polished bronze cases. The trim, windows and doors show evidence of slivering. The face bears the retailer's name of M. S. Smith & Co, Detroit showing that this clock was sent to this country for sale and retailed here as an item for the wealthy class of our gilded age. This firm founded in 1870 as a watch company which reformed as a silversmithing company and a jewelry trader in 1889 and worked until 1895.

Pair of Large Vintage Tole Iron Topiary Plants in Vintage Tole Metal Urns

This very large and dramatic pair of decorative lawn ornaments are from the last quarter of the 20th century, circa 1970-1990. Made as individual objects and both slightly different in leaf placement and possession the urns are in a Hollywood regency form and then the whole is painted to simulate zinc left to the elements. The tops are removable for travel and the urns are still plant-able and drain. Designed to plant the tops remove for working then set back into a shaped cage that houses the arrangements. When we bought them they were filled with black river stones and sat on black river stone beds. Since the are plant-able and can drain the contrast between growing and sculpted metal has endless possibilities. Probably custom made for the space we purchased them from they are unique and unusual but are similar to old French tole topiary urns made in the 1920s.
