So excited to be in residence at Bethany Arts Community next week creating the next chapter of “The Flock.”

Please join us on Saturday October 24th from 2-3pm for a studio showing, where we share more about the project’s development and present the newly created choreographic material from our residency.

Three of our original SSD dancers, Hannah Straney (Hannah Straney),Piper Dye (Piper Makenzie Dye) and Cristina Moya-Palacios (cristina moya-palacios) will be joined by four new dancers for this project, Kimie Parker (kimie parker), Emily Mistretta (Emily Dara Rose Mistretta), Mikayla Lambert (Mikayla Lambert) and Kristina Desjardins (Kristina Desjardins) and will be led by Choreographer Skyla Schreter (Skyla Schreter) and SSD Rehearsal Director Craig Wasserman (craig wasserman.)

*BTS* This photo is of the little area in my house that I usually use as a gym/ yoga/ gyrotonic studio. But for the next few days, it’s my costume closet; hanging and housing mismatched pieces of 5 different costumes for my new film as part of my project “The Flock.”

Usually, costumes come after the dance has been mostly made and set. But for this- I knew the costume design had to be at the forefront of the creation process.

My amazing costume designer Paillette by Lauren Carmen and I (as usual) exchanged countless 10 minute long voice memos and an evolving Pinterest board to deeply brainstorm the visual world we wanted to create. And so, the costume designs for this project were finalized before any storyboard, shotlist or even any choreography was created.

I want the visual world - the costumes and the beauty and majesty of the unique natural environment that is our location, Bannerman Island, to take the lead in shaping how the characters move, exist and interact within this story.

Filming starts next week, and these gorgeous costumes will come to life then in partnership with Bannerman Castle Trust. I can’t wait!

Bannerman Island is the site of my new short film “Jo’s Dream”, which is a part of my larger dance work that is being developed, called “The Flock.”

“The Flock” is a narrative story based on the book Jonathan Livingston Seagull, and follows a curious seagull as she is outcast from her flock for her ambition to follow her creativity and pursuit of perfect flight.

My team and I will be filming “Jo’s Dream” later this month on Bannerman Island— a surrealist and psychedelic interlude within the larger story. To let people into the world we have imagined, we are producing an immersive tour experience, which will give visitors a special way to explore this unique and magical island.

Please join me on May 31 in Beacon for a behind-the-scenes look at my current dance project “The Flock”!

I’ll be joined in conversation and creation by lead dancer Hannah Straney ( ) as we pull back the curtain on her character “Jo” and work through different creative and movement ideas in real-time.

We will take a deep dive into the story at the root of the project’s inspiration - including preparing for our site-specific short film which will take place on Bannerman Castle Island this Fall.

Part conversation, part working rehearsal, this will be an immersive opportunity to learn about the project and get a first hand look at how a professional dance work is developed!

Usually I only post/share subjects related to my dance and my art. As I learn more and go through more life things, I realize more and more that everything is related to my dance and my art. All parts of me.

Here’s a photo of me and my dad, who passed away just about 6 months ago. I loved him so much and I will never cease to keep doing my own thing my own way, because that’s what he always encouraged me to do, however uncharted the path I’m taking may be.

I miss him so much, and that grief and acceptance is part of my creative process each day in so many ways that I’m still learning and discovering. Sometimes challenging- sometimes sad- sometimes healing and inspiring and affirming too.

I also think that as humans we experience grief in so many different ways, more than we ever realize, and that we tend to put it aside/away as if it’s not a worthy occupant of our time, attention and energy, but there is actually so much we can learn from it, and beauty that can come from it.

RIP daddy, your spirit remains alive in my creativity, finding its way into every part of who I am.

Dance community!

I’m looking for a few new dancers to join my cast for my upcoming project, “THE FLOCK” this Fall.

Main project dates will take place within Oct 13-24, including rehearsals in NYC and a residency in the Hudson Valley (NY.)

**if you have reached out to me in the past, please feel free to email me again so I know of your interest/availability for this project and can be reminded of your materials. **

I am interested in working with dancers with mature artistic voices, who bring life experience into the studio, are confident in using ballet technique in combination with contemporary dance practices & methods, and who can work collaboratively both in solo work and within ensemble work.

“THE FLOCK” is a narrative work, comprising of a series of 6 chapters. Some chapters have already been made, some are mid-development, and others are planned. Since the base movement vocabulary for this project has already been developed in part, I will hold workshop-auditions in late Spring to introduce material to@prospective dancers using the core movement language of the piece.
