Limner Gallery was founded in 1987 at 216 East 10th Street in Manhattan's East Village. At that time, the East Village was world renown as the center of the alternative art scene. With a focus on politically controversial and provocative artwork, the gallery operated successfully and developed it's client base at this location. During the next two decades, Limner operated at a number of locations in Manhattan, a gallery space at 598 Broadway in Soho, a storefront at 215 Mulberry Street and a loft at 87o Avenue of the Americas. Briefly, in the early 2000s the gallery also operated a small storefront gallery adjacent to the Phoenicia Hotel in the Catskill Mountain resort town of Phoenicia, NY. Sadly, the hotel burnt to the ground in a tragic fire, after which the gallery acquired a building at 123 Warren St. in Hudson, NY.
Situated on the Hudson River with spectacular views of the Catskill Mountains, Hudson is connected to Manhattan by Amtrak and is a short distance to the NY State Capital in Albany. Coined “Upstate’s Downtown”, Hudson is a popular tourist destination, known for it varied restaurants, art galleries, upscale hotels and shopping venues. In Hudson, Limner has continued it’s focus on conversational art, while simultaneously offering a venue for new and emerging artists working in all media and styles.
