In New England racing, you donโt even have to say Pete Fiandaca.
Just say โPeter.โ
Everyone knows exactly who youโre talking about.
Pete Fiandaca was the definition of a short track racer. There was no fancy race shop. Pete worked on his race car right in his driveway. If it rained, the car didnโt get worked on. His engine hoist was a big tree in the backyard.
And somehow, that man won 322 races.
โThe Travelinโ Manโ raced all over New England, but Hudson Speedway was always home. Generations of fans watched that familiar #135 battle around our little quarter mile, and Pete continued racing well into the 2010s.
In 2010, Pete was inducted into the New England Auto Racers Hall of Fame. But before the official ceremony, Hudson made sure its hometown legend received the recognition he deserved in front of his home crowd. Right on the frontstretch, John Spence Sr. inducted Peter before he climbed back into the #135 and went racing that night.
That tells you just about everything you need to know about โthe kid from Fitchburgโ.
A Hall of Famer who still just wanted to race.
This weekend, we race 135 laps in his memory. Not just to remember the wins, championships or Hall of Fame induction, but to remember the man who became such a part of Hudson Speedway that all these years later, we still only need one word.
Peter.
Forever Alive #135. ๐ชฝ๐
