12 PM | WELCOME + LISTEN: Hala Alyan, author of Salt Houses and The Arsonists’ City.

3 PM | LISTEN: Princess Daazhraii Johnson, Peabody Award-winning producer and writer with multiple Emmy nominations.

4 PM | FOOD-SHARE: Chef David Skinner of Ishtia, a Choctaw tribal member whose work draws on ancestral stories and creates space to experience Indigenous culture through food and storytelling.

5 PM | LISTEN + CLOSE: Gwen Westerman, Dakota language speaker, co-author of Mni Sota Makoce: The Land of the Dakota, and Minnesota’s Poet Laureate since 2021.

Over 24 non-consecutive hours from October 9-12, we will gather in person at DiverseWorks and Mni Sota Makoce to listen to twelve First Nations and Indigenous authors, poets, and scholars live-broadcasting from their home territories and First Nations.

Overflow Radio: Šakotayišol Nunuš Constellation Listening Gatherings will feature skill shares and panel discussions by local artists, with each day organized around a different theme: Making, Land, Body, and Protection. For the livestreamed listening sessions, we will gather near radios broadcasting via micro-FM radio to listen and learn from writers, thinkers, and scholars Kai Recollet, Joseph M. Pierce, Diane Wilson, Joan Naviyuk Kane, Eve Tuck, Dylan Robinson, Emily Johnson, Camille Georgeson-Usher, Sonia Guiñansaca, Hala Alyan, Princess Daazhraii Johnson, and Gwen Westerman. Join us for Maize, a performance by ACT II artist collective featuring Monica Villarreal, Kill Joy, Koomah, Yesenia Mondragon, AuaniCh’ipiri Rojas, Aryn Ward, and laura yohualtlahuiz.

Through interconnected storytelling vignettes, Maize uses corn as a connecting thread to explore how people, foods, stories, and knowledge move across lands and generations. Blending movement, live sound, puppetry, costume, body transformation, and multimedia, the artists invite us to imagine migration through nourishment, reciprocity, and belonging.

Please note: The performance is approximately 30 minutes, and audiences will move through the gallery as the performance unfolds.
