Today we lost one of the greatest songwriters of all time, Don Schlitz.

I first got to know Don over lunch in 2017. I shared what we were building with Songwriter City, and he told me it aligned with what he wanted to be doing. That meant a lot coming from someone of his stature. From there, we spent a few years booking shows together, having the occasional breakfast since we lived in the same part of town, and he was exactly who you’d hope he’d be….kind, thoughtful, easy to work with, and just a pleasure to be around.

Getting to sit in the room and hear him tell the stories behind some of the most iconic songs in music history….that’s something I’ll always hold close.

What makes it even more meaningful is that Don wasn’t just part of the songwriter round format we all benefit from today - he helped create it. As one of the original writers in the round at the Bluebird, he played a role in shaping the very experience we now build our business around and share with people from all around the world.

And when he took the stage, people didn’t just listen, they were astounded. And me along with them.

A true gentleman. A legend in every sense.

Grateful for the time we had.

Rest easy, Don.

Not all songwriter rounds are the same. And we love when we get to build an experience like this.

A returning client came to us with a new theme this year — looking for a blend of pop, rock, and country and wanting something that felt elevated and different from the year before.

So we curated a lineup specifically for that:

David Hodges
Emerson Hart
Natalie Hemby

Three world-class writers. Three completely different musical paths. And a combination you don’t often see on the same stage.

This wasn’t a random lineup. These are artists who know each other, respect each other, and bring something out of each other in the room.

That’s where it shifts.

From a typical round…
to something more intentional.
More dynamic.
More connected.

Because the right combination of writers changes everything.

And at the end of the night, the client said it was the best entertainment they’ve ever had at this annual event.

That’s what we’re always aiming for.

In Orlando, Lee Thomas Miller delivered a keynote-style session — blending songs, storytelling, a fireside chat, and live Q&A.

A focused room.
Real connection.
A strong conference moment!

Special thanks to and !

Something most people don’t realize about songwriters…

The songs we all know—the ones tied to memories, milestones, and moments—often come from people most of us will never see on a marquee.

For a long time, there wasn’t a real economic model that valued career songwriters (whose primary role is writing, not headlining) presenting their own work. Their income lived mostly behind the scenes as publishing deals, royalties, fractions of pennies from streaming, or future promises that didn’t always arrive.

Meanwhile, those songs fueled tours, brands, films, commercials, and entire billion-dollar industries.

This isn’t about blame. It’s about awareness.

Songwriters aren’t simply writing songs. They’re translating lived experience into stories we all recognize as our own.

And when we give them space to share not just the music, but the experiences behind it, something shifts. It changes how we listen, how we connect, and how we value the moment.

The song always comes first.

Maybe it’s time we put the songwriters there, too.

An evening designed for just fourteen VIP guests — a private dinner followed by an intimate songwriter experience with Natalie Hemby and Josh Kear.

World-class songwriters sharing songs and stories in a room where everyone could truly listen and connect.

When the setting is right and the experience is curated with care, something special happens in the room. The music hits deeper. The stories resonate longer. And the moment becomes something people will always remember.

The most successful events we see right now aren’t louder.

They’re deeper.

Attendees don’t remember the biggest stage or the flashiest moment.

They remember when something connected and felt human.

When a world-class songwriter explains why a song was written.

When a room collectively leans in and engages.

When a story lands because it’s honest and authentic.

Going beyond entertainment means designing moments that actually stay with people months and years after the event ends.

That’s where the genuine connection lives.

After a decade in Nashville, Trannie Anderson pauses long enough to reflect on the road that led here and releases her debut songwriter album that does exactly that.

The record brings together stripped-down versions of songs she’s helped write, a few uncut pieces still waiting for the right voice, and spoken moments that give deeper context to where the songs came from and why they matter.

It’s a reminder that behind every “finished” song is a very human story of growth, doubt, collaboration, persistence. That the work doesn’t end when a song becomes successful. And that some songs exist simply to tell the truth before they ever find a home.

Congratulations on a beautiful debut album and well-earned Opry debut! ❤️

We love celebrating songwriters not just for the hits they write, but for the leadership they bring to the community.

We’re proud to share that Lee Thomas Miller has been named 2026 Songwriter Ambassador in Residence by BMI, which is a new initiative designed to deepen engagement with songwriters as they navigate both the art and the business of music.

In this role, Lee will host his own BMI Acoustic Lounge, lead BMI’s official songwriter round at the Tin Pan South Songwriters Festival, and perform at the BMI Key West Songwriters Festival, among other appearances throughout the year.

This recognition builds on Lee’s ongoing leadership as President of the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI), where he continues to advocate for songwriters, mentor emerging voices, and help shape the future of the craft.

At Songwriter City, this is exactly why Lee resonates so deeply with audiences — not only because of the songs he’s written, but because of the perspective, generosity, and wisdom he brings to the stage.

One thing the past decade has made abundantly clear: none of this happens alone.

These photos represent some of the most talented songwriters in the world…. and even better humans.

Songwriters who show up with generosity, humility, humor, and heart. Who care deeply about the songs, the stories, and the people in the room.

We’re incredibly grateful for the trust they place in us and in what we’re building together.

The miles traveled.
The stages shared.
The conversations backstage.

All of it matters.

Thank you for your professionalism, your friendship, and your belief in creating something meaningful.

Here’s to the moments we’ve shared, and the many still ahead.

And Brett… we miss you profoundly. 🤍
