If you aren’t ready, then it’s time to ✨

The Ensemble Theatre’s final mainstage production of the Season is ‘Get Ready’ - an exploration of the joys and pains that many African American musicians faced during the shift from 1950s Doo-Wop to what is now known as R&B

Written by Jaye T. Stewart & Joe Plummer; with music composed by Joe Plummer and lyrics by Joe Plummer, Debi Stewart, and Jaye T. Stewart, ‘Get Ready’ captures the soulful sounds of a hopeful comeback of The Doves, a fictional group whose heyday has long passed.

Directed & Choreographed by Patdro Harris with Musical Direction by Phillip Hall, ‘Get Ready’ is a treat to see and is sure to entertain

‘Get Ready’ Opens on Friday, June 26th at The Ensemble Theatre

Torie Wiggins’s “Who All Over There?” at The Ensemble Theatre Houston! Joy Yvonne Jones & Robby Matlock star in this commentary on *******al romance. Nifty sitcom-style intro. Endearingly awkward meet-cute and 1st date. Surprising use of AI. Curious how a gender-flipped version would hit. Closes 5/31.

We’re thrilled to welcome The Ensemble Theatre Houston to Spektrix!

Influenced by the African American Theatre Movement of the 1960s and 70s, and frustrated by the lack of opportunities for Black actors, George Hawkins established his own company in Houston, Texas in 1976, then known as the Black Ensemble Company. Hawkins’ goal was to create a theater that would provide diverse roles for Black artists.

Today the Ensemble Theatre continues to expand and create innovative programs to bring African American theatre to a wide range of audiences.

A warm welcome to the community, we’re delighted to have you with us!
