I’m grateful to have served as co-curator on this exhibition, an experience that expanded me in ways I’ll continue to carry forward. Working alongside has been both grounding and inspiring, and I’m thankful for the guidance, trust, and knowledge shared throughout this process.

A special thank you to .reagan for entrusting us with such a powerful vision; bridging history, community, and innovation. And gratitude to African American Studies Department for extending Osinachi Immaculeta Okafor as our research collaborator, whose contributions helped deepen the narrative of this work.

This exhibition is more than something to view, but also something to feel, reflect on, and carry with you.

“Bayou Love” is my tribute to Bayou Road ;one of the oldest streets in New Orleans and a living heartbeat of Black entrepreneurship, trade, and cultural exchange. Long before we called it business development, our people were building legacy there .

I crowned this piece with magnolias as a symbol of value, dignity, and rootedness. The magnolia doesn’t just bloom,it endures. Just like Bayou Road. Just like us.

The beads rest gently, honoring tradition. The street sign stands tall, a reminder that place matters. History matters. Black business matters.

This is love for the blocks that built us.
This is love for the trades that fed us.
This is love for a street that still carries our name in its soil.

Honored and deeply grateful to for sharing my story: “Artist etches Black culture through wood burning🤎”

As a New Orleans native and Houston-based visual artist, it means so much to have space to speak about my process ( etching, burning, & layering) and how visual storytelling allows me to preserve the soul of the South. Every etched line into wood is memory. Every layer of watercolor and acrylic is history, resilience, and identity.

Thank you for seeing the work, the intention, and the cultural legacy behind it. This is bigger than me; it’s about honoring where we come from and documenting who we are.

The South raised me. The art carries it forward.

Braids Beneath the Brim 🐎🤎✨

This piece begins a new chapter in my practice centering the overlooked and under-documented history of Black cowgirls across the Gulf South, bridging from New Orleans to Houston.

Black women have always been present in cowboy culture as riders, ranchers, caretakers, competitors, and tradition bearers. Yet, their stories are minimized or erased. This work reclaims that presence, showcasing the braids beneath the brim speak to lineage and identity. The rope halo transforms labor into reverence. Gold accessories become value. Texture becomes memory.

This is the first of many upcoming pieces committed to visual storytelling that honors Black Cowgirl Culture; preserving what has always been ours, because the land knew their names long before history chose to forget them.

It’s Carnival Time ⚜️
I didn’t mean for her to become this, but somewhere in the painting, I felt how much I miss home.

This time of year, New Orleans moves through me in feathers, in gold, & in memory.

She is the spirit of our women: unapologetic, adorned, tender, & unshaken.
We give love loudly. We stand tall. We don’t bow.

Until I’m back for Mardi Gras next year, this is for the women of New Orleans. Shining in her glory. ⚜️💜💛💚
