Music Doing Good in Service is back in schools! Program Director Phillip Hall is back in the schools working with choir and music students. The students at Carver High School (Houston) will perform their Fall Concert on Wednesday October 16th and Mr. Hall will accompany them. This year’s group has had some exciting new additions, with 17 new freshman enrolling in the choir from across Aldine ISD Middle Schools!

It's safe to say Mika Hasler knows the power of music. She's performed with the Houston Symphony, Rice University, and was the concert mistress for seven years for the Houston Grand Opera, as well as performed in countless competitions across the world. Now, she hopes to encourage young Houston musicians with her competition, the Mika Hasler Young Artist Competition. Mika Hasler takes pride in not only sharing the power of classical music as a performer but also providing opportunities to up-and-coming talent as a mentor.

Last year, we partnered with Martina McBride's Team Music Is Love to donate musical instruments, sheet music, and lesson books! This grant helped Mauriceville Middle School recover from damages caused by flooding from Hurricane Harvey.

Thank you again to Evin Thayer Studios for hosting our concert Celebrating the Arts! What an INCREDIBLE night with our students! We had performers from our In Service, Scholarships, and Instruments outreach programs, as well as our Music Doing Good Core Artists; Kenneth Gayle, Phillip Hall, Ray Younkin, and Aaron Kaufman. The arts are strong in this city!

Music Doing Good Scholarship Recipient Zoe Zhang started an organization called Project Lights, Camera, Action! Every summer, she goes to China's Xinjiang province to work with underserved students and provide them with English Language classes through music, art, photography, and now also team sports!

Congratulations to Zoe and thank you for all your hard work with these children!

Our students have recorded some pretty exciting music with our recording studio, but now we're moving out and hoping to find good new homes for the recording equipment! Stop by our office tomorrow from 9am to 3pm and Saturday 9am to noon to browse our open house for microphones, mixing boards, and instruments! We'll also have designer handbags and jewelry available for sale!

Special thanks to Evin Thayer Studios for hosting our concert "Celebrating the Arts" last weekend! We had performances from students in our Scholarship, Instruments, and In Service programs, as well as our Music Doing Good Core Artists! What a wonderful way to celebrate the end of summer, the one year anniversary of the new Evin Thayer Studios, and most of all, the ARTS!

The debate will be held at Texas Southern University, and Breanna, a vocal student at TSU, will be performing the National Anthem. You can see her perform on the telecast or live at the debate!
