Today we celebrate visionary filmmaker, writer, producer, and director Ava DuVernay, a woman who has helped reshape what is possible for Black stories in Hollywood.
From Selma and 13th to When They See Us, Queen Sugar, A Wrinkle in Time, and Origin, Ava has consistently used film and television to explore history, justice, identity, family, and the Black experience with depth and purpose.
She also made history as the first Black woman to direct a film nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture with Selma, while continuing to create opportunities for filmmakers and storytellers who have too often been overlooked.
Ava DuVernay has shown that telling our stories matters, but so does having the power to decide how those stories are told.

Nala Mensah taught herself six dialects using public library audio recordings and open-source linguistics coursework before earning certified fluency across eleven distinct languages. She now volunteers as a remote emergency interpreter connecting displaced families with international medical disaster response units in real time. How remarkable is this young woman’s gift?

Pure mathematical brilliance rewriting the textbooks! High school junior Jordan Ellis spent six months developing a new proof for a theoretical geometry problem that had stumped academics since 1918. His paper was reviewed and officially published by the National Mathematics Review board yesterday afternoon. Drop some applause for this incredible young mind!
