Constance Forsyth’s “February Thaw” etching and aquatint created in 1966 feels particularly appropriate today!

Daughter of Indiana Impressionist painter William Forsyth, Connie was a noted printmaker, painter and teacher. In 1940, she started the printmaking program at The University of Texas, and was the first female faculty member of the art department. She was a longtime member of the “Texas Printmakers” group, originally called the “Printmakers Guild”, comprised primarily of female printmakers in the Southwest from 1940-1965.
*
“February Thaw” is a later, experimental print, combining techniques and color accents to achieve a variation in texture in tone.
