🧠💃5 reasons why DANCE is good for your brain!
Research continues to explore the relationship between activities like dance and cognitive health, including their potential role in reducing the risk of cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s disease.
1. It challenges your memory. Remembering choreography requires your brain to learn, store, and recall movement patterns and sequences.
2. It requires focus. You’re listening to music, watching for cues, remembering what’s next, and moving your body all at the same time.
3. It keeps you learning. Trying a new combination or movement pattern gives your brain something unfamiliar to process and figure out.
4. It connects your brain and body. Dance requires your brain to constantly communicate with your body as you coordinate movement, timing, and direction.
5. It combines movement with social connection. Physical activity, mental engagement, and staying socially connected are all areas associated with supporting cognitive health as we age.
Dance isn’t a guarantee against Alzheimer’s, but it is a pretty wonderful way to keep learning, moving, and connecting as you get older.
