We host 2nd Saturday Open Studios 12- 7 p.m. Spring Street Studios is another exciting redevelopment project in the First Ward. The former Harris Moving and Storage Building located at 1824 Spring Street (corner of Spring and Silver) features 70 working artist studios. These studios support the flourishing art community in First Ward, where Winter Street Studios, sister to Spring, provides another

75 artist studios with over 90 working artists. Artists, art patrons and the community as a whole benefit from these cultural additions to the City of Houston. Spring Street Studios is ideally located within proximity to Downtown and in the heart of what is now being referred to Houston's Arts District.

Proteus Within, is an installation by artist Pavlina Vagioni that will occupy the TANK Space at Spring Street Studios at Sawyer Yards from September 9 through November 25.

Proteus Within combines sculptural elements with kinetic light, optical illusions, and sound. Drawing from the myth of Proteus, the shape-shifting sea deity from Greek mythology, the work manifests a sense of fluidity and transformation. Through a dynamic interplay of light, darkness, sound, and three-dimensional forms, Pavlina Vagioni transforms the TANK space into an illusory sea, echoing the ever-changing forms of the mythical Proteus. Simultaneously, the work delves into the territory of the collective unconscious, pulling references from analytical psychology and Carl Jung's theories while rendering a commentary on the "Proteus effect" in our digital age—the influence of one's virtual avatar on real-world behavior.

Rooted in Hellenic mythology, Proteus Within builds a cultural bridge, promoting an enriching dialogue between Houston's diverse community and Greece. Spanning the conscious and subconscious realms, it links the individual to the collective, inviting a conversation between personal narrative and global mythologies.

Hot night, cool jazz!

Come out for a great summer night of art, live jazz music, food, and drinks on Friday, September 8! Meet the Spring Street Studios artists and shop an array of paintings, sculptures, photography, mixed media, jewelry, and more. Make your way through the building playing the Passport Game, and get a chance to win door prizes donated by the artists.

Free and open to the public from 5-9pm. Featuring a jazz saxophone player, who will be strolling throughout the building from 5-8pm.

Food by Treebeard’s restaurant. Bar services will be provided by Blue Ribbon Staffing who will be offering complimentary sangria.

This Saturday at Spring Street Studios from 10am-6pm! The Author Indie Book Fair is an event that features and celebrates the fabulous work of 50+ independently published and self-published authors from Texas from all genre types (fiction, non-fiction, children's, YA, self-help, zine/chapbooks, comics/graphic novels, etc.) and organizations that support independent creative writing.

Along with an amazing line-up of local authors, many of the wonderful artists that call Spring Street Studios home will have their doors open to welcome guests during the event.

This indoor event is completely free and for readers of all ages!
