“I am not a Christian.
I am not a Muslim.
But I believe in God.”
— Chief Babatunde Adewale Okusanya
Words I often heard from my father as a child.
At the time,
I didn’t fully understand them.
But I loved hearing them anyway.
Why?
Because they were coming from my father’s mouth…
the coolest guy ever lol.
As I’ve grown older,
listened to people,
watched the news,
watched social media become the news…
it all started making more sense.
People hiding under the umbrella of religion,
organized faith,
titles,
tradition…
while performing acts completely disconnected from God.
Christian.
Muslim.
Ibrahim.
Abraham.
Issa.
Jesus.
Pastor.
Imam.
Does any of it truly matter
if one isn’t living from a place of Love?
Not the world’s version of love.
The real kind.
Because if God is Love,
then Love should be the religion.
To treat the next person
the way you would want to be treated…
not based on how they treat you,
but based on who you choose to be.
Easier said than done.
So when the news shows conflict between religions,
maybe the problem isn’t always the religion itself…
maybe it’s the people
who slowly turned themselves into god
without truly thinking things through.
The nature of man can be nurtured.
But what is nurturing it?
The Supreme?
Or the ego pretending to be supreme?
Don’t get trapped inside the free box the world hands out.
Seek God for yourself.
Live in Love.
Lead with Love.
And one day,
we’ll all discover the real truth.
Until then,
do good anyway.
Especially when there’s nothing to gain in return.
Who are you
when the sun isn’t watching?
Thoughts of a HeARTist,
not a perfectionist.
Deeper than art.
Be You Till Full.
