I bet anyone working with the orange clown has a chill running up their spine.

Don’t disagree with the dear leader.

Don’t forget this is the last week of The Feast and Empanada Loca.

The Feast moves quickly, it moves from one scene to the next seamlessly, while still being easy to follow, something not commonly done in this genre. The Feast is playing at Match Theatre until October 26. Tickets are available at the box office or online.

Cool article about some great actors and people. All most all have worked with Obsidian including the star of our upcoming show opening next week Briana Resa.

This past August, when Brandon Morgan strode up on stage to accept his Houston Theater Award for the Best Everywhere We Looked Player, he pointed to his friend, Joseph “Joe P” Palmore (who had just won the Best Actor Award) and said the following: “See man, they only liked one...

Empanada Loca
THE STORY: Now living deep under Manhattan in an abandoned subway tunnel with the Mole People, a very hungry Dolores recounts her years selling w**d with her boyfriend, her return to Washington Heights after thirteen years in prison, her fortuitous reunion with an old stoner friend who lets her give massages for cash in the basement under his empanada shop, and the bloodbath that sent her fleeing underground. Loosely inspired by the legend of Sweeney Todd, EMPANADA LOCA is contemporary Grand Guignol horror in the style of Spalding Gray.

What the critics say:
“Exuberantly macabre…A creepy urban-myth drama that doesn’t seem all that mythical. I’ll be shuddering as I enter the subway for a while yet.” —The New York Times.

“Spine-tingling and stomach-churning…Mark’s dialogue is unnervingly authentic.” —Time Out (New York).

“Utterly transfixing…EMPANADA LOCA is a real hair-raiser. Anyone looking for a good fright won’t want to miss it, but beware: This show is not for the faint of heart or weak of stomach.” —TheaterMania.com.

“If you’re looking for a bedtime story guaranteed to keep you up, shuddering, far into the night, EMPANADA LOCA is the show for you.” —Lighting & Sound America.

The Feast
The Story:
Matt and Anna’s relationship is going swimmingly until the sewers under their apartment open up and begin to speak. The plumber is angry, Matt’s paintings are getting stranger, and a storm is gathering. An eerie comedy about what is real, what is not, and who knows.

"...nicely creepy…agreeably scary and original…There are twists and turns and more than one startling U-bend." —The New York Times

"...smartly mixes the comedic and the macabre…Peel back its magical-horror story of ancient sewer creatures who reach out to a gentle artist…and you’ll find a perceptive study of a character and relationship." —BlogCritics.org

"...a briskly paced…and largely unflinching examination of the how we hurt and try to heal the ones we love…What’s real and what’s imagined is a slippery issue and a big part of the piece’s appeal…Finley’s crackling script is ruthlessly efficient." —StageBuddy.com

Our Story

Since its inception, in March 2010, Obsidian Theater (formerly Obsidian Art Space) has provided an affordable space for visual and performing artists’ creative works. Obsidian seeks to provide an environment in which artists’ creativity and imaginations may thrive. Winner of the Houston Named the Best New Arts Venue of 2011 by the Houston Press, we continue to serve Houston artists and the historic Heights community with our intimate and versatile black box space.
