The Houston Zoo has been named a 2026 Wild Futures Grant Program recipient by The Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom.

The $10,000 grant supports our Teen International Travel program. Zoo Crew members work alongside the Zoo's global conservation partners in the field. In March 2027, that takes them to Belize.

The Wild Futures Grant Program is a pilot initiative funding youth conservation education at AZA-accredited institutions. We're glad to be among this year's four recipients. Read more: bit.ly/4tR10az

Who shows off their best smile: Cali or Max?

No matter your choice, we hope this brightens your day as much as it did ours.

Orangutans, clouded leopards, and tigers are among the remarkable Asian species that remind us why protecting wildlife matters. During today’s AANHPI Heritage Month celebration, we invite you to visit Houston Zoo and learn more about these incredible apes, and reflect on the importance of protecting orangutans and their forest homes in the wild.

Join us for a day of culture, connection, and conservation, including special performances at Reflection Pool, Meet the Keeper Chats, and more. Every visit helps support efforts to save wildlife: bit.ly/43oTGIs

Come see the giraffes this weekend and check out what’s new in their habitat. 🦒☀️

A new shade canopy is now complete, helping improve comfort for Zawadi, Asali, Gigi, Kamili, and Tino while creating even better guest interactions. Additional habitat updates, including more drinkers, fans, and feeders, were also added to support animal wellbeing and enhance the guest experience.

We are grateful to the Jo Collier Hart Estate for the generous gift that made this project possible. Every improvement like this helps us provide exceptional care for the animals you know and love.

Meet one of the world’s most striking and elusive venomous snakes: the Mangshan pit viper. Native to southern China, this rare species can be seen in our Reptile & Amphibian House, where its habitat is designed to reflect the cool, misty forests it calls home.

Tomorrow, join us for our AANHPI Heritage Month celebration as we highlight cultural connections and Asian species like the Mangshan pit viper through special performances at Reflection Pool, Meet the Keeper Chats sponsored by CenterPoint Energy Foundation, and more. Stop by to celebrate and see this remarkable species up close: bit.ly/43oTGIs

This event is included with general admission and is free for members.

This season, the Houston Zoo released more than one million Houston toad eggs into protected habitat in Bastrop County—one of the program’s most productive seasons yet.

Working with Texas Parks and Wildlife, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and our colleagues at Dallas Zoo and Fort Worth Zoo we are helping this endangered species recover in its remaining east-central Texas range.

This year, we also introduced a major innovation to our Houston Toad Recovery Program: custom egg-counting software, developed in collaboration with Houston medical physicist Dr. Moiz Ahmad. By using photos to quickly and accurately count thousands of eggs, this new tool helps us scale our impact and move our mission to inspire action to save wildlife forward.
