Last week, five of our Scouts completed three incredible dives, and I could not be prouder of them.
Our first dive took us into the coral reef that is older than the combined ages of every member of Biển Đông. On the second dive, we saw an amazing variety of marine life, including colorful fish, lobsters, two species of sea turtles, and two species of sharks.
The third dive was one of my favorites. We explored the inside of a shipwreck, and as we came back out, we were greeted by the sight of a submarine. It was an unforgettable experience.
At Biển Đông, our goal is not simply to collect adventures. Our goal is to make the uncomfortable become comfortable. We believe that every new challenge helps young people develop wisdom earlier in life. The more situations they experience, the more confidence, judgment, and calm decision making they build. One day, those lessons become the difference between reacting with fear and responding with wisdom.

A few weeks ago, six of our Kha planned and traveled to Oregon to complete the Mount Hood Timberline Trail. The trail is about 42 miles, but we challenged them to add extra miles so they would finish a full 50 mile backpacking journey as part of their Kha challenge.
At Biển Đông, every age group has its own challenge. We believe challenges help young people gain wisdom faster, not just physical strength. Every obstacle teaches them how to think, make good decisions, manage risk, and choose the safest path when it matters most.
That is why we believe challenge is one of the most powerful ways to help children grow. It is not about reaching the finish line. It is about becoming wiser with every step.

After swimming training today, the Camp Chief and I picked up a 16 foot trailer that our Liên Đoàn has desperately needed. It will give us a place to store equipment and the wood we use for pioneering projects.

A huge thank you to all of the parents, Tráng Sinh, and sponsors who helped make this possible. This second trailer belongs to the Scouts, and it will support many years of camping, pioneering, training, and adventure.

Next week’s swimming training will focus on Ditch and Don skills. Scouts will practice removing and putting on clothing in the water, tying knots underwater, and completing tasks while wearing full Class A uniforms. These exercises help build confidence, water competence, problem solving skills, and the ability to stay calm under pressure.

This summer, 12 Scouts will discover they are capable of swimming a mile in open water. The swim is just the beginning. The confidence and wisdom they gain will last much longer.
