The documentary movie of The Whiskey Rebellion, produced by Kristian Berg, is now out on wpsu PBS. It’s excellent and is part of the America 250 celebration. I’m honored and excited that my artwork has been included. One of my paintings shows how they made whiskey in 1794 and the other depicts the act of tar and feathering a revenue agent. On May 14,2026 a special marker was unveiled on the Montour Trail. It commemorates an event when George Washington came to inspect his nearly 3000 acres of land in Washington County, Pa. in 1784, after the Revolution .Washington found 13 families squatting on his property and attempted to evict them. This is the scene shown in my original oil painting which was commissioned by Brad Strimel, current owner of the David Reed house. The title of the painting is “George Washington confronting David Reed at Miller’s Run-1784”. The entire story can be read in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette.

A recently completed historical commission: “ George Washington Confronts David Reed at Miller’s Run 1784”. In 1784 George Washington headed west from Virginia with a couple of companions to inspect his approximately 3000 acres of land in Washington County,Pa. He discovered 13 families squatting on his property. They had developed farms and built homes and barns. This scene took place at David Reed’s house ( which still exists ) where Washington went for dinner and to confront the squatters about what to do next. He held out a red handkerchief and said ,” As sure as I have this red handkerchief, this is my property and you’re trespassing.” Something to that effect. This event is recorded in Washington County history. The owner of the David Reed home commissioned the painting. I spent several months on it and used actual people in the composition. ( except for Presley Neville , who later took part in the Whiskey Rebellion , in the black suit. )
