The Elysium series explores a visual map to my happy place. During a difficult health journey last year, a nurse shared a piece of wisdom passed down by her grandmother: “whenever you see a butterfly, it’s a sign that God is watching over you.”
Since that conversation, a butterfly has crossed my path almost every single day, precisely when I need comfort the most. The Elysium series was born from that grace.
When I return to the studio, I continuously thought about butterflies, and these compositions began to develop - emerging naturally from the background terrain as visions of a heavenly paradise.
Some pieces capture rhythmic, immersive orbits of butterflies circling around to create a spiritual portal of protection, while others form soaring groupings, reaching vertically towards heaven. The fractured canvas honors the vulnerability of the body, while the gilded sky honors the absolute resilience of the soul.
