Works from Erika Alonso’s most recent exhibition “Birds Are People Too”

Observing and Observed II (2023)
Ink and Watercolor on Paper
15 x 11 inches

Erika's work transcends personal experiences to focus on intricate connections between the observer and observed, as well as themes of nature vs. nurture and self vs. society. She skillfully depicts the underlying commonality in these dichotomies, prompting us to recognize the interconnectedness in these seemingly contrasting areas.

This Friday | "Birds Are People Too" a solo exhibition by Erick Alonso.

Thank you City Book and

BASED IN HOUSTON, Cuban-American painter Erika Alonso is a self-taught, self-described "painterly painter," with a playful and very idiosyncratic take on abstract expressionism, mark making, and automatism, where the artist works quickly and intuitively, relying upon the subconscious to guide the artistic process. Her work can be found in numerous private collections across the United States and Europe, including that of beloved Houston collector and art fanatic Lester Marks.

On Friday, Sept 8., from
7-9pm at Lanecia Rouse Tinsley Gallery, Alise Art Group's Art House presents Alonso's solo exhibition Birds Are People Too (And Other Thoughts... ).

🔜 Get Ready for The B-Side by LaMonté French!

Mark your calendars! LaMonté French's new collection, The B-Side, is set to debut on aliseartgroup.com on September 16, 2023.

What's The B-Side All About?
The collection will feature five distinct releases, each showcasing an exclusive range of artworks.

"The B-Side" isn't just a title; it's a window into the artist's creative odyssey. It exposes you to pieces that are deeply personal, daring, vulnerable, and filled with raw emotion—resulting from years of honing the craft.

Why "The B-Side"?
Much like the flip side of an album often harbors hidden gems, The B-Side brings to the limelight those artworks that are experimental, intimate, and undervalued.

"Repurpose" by Colby Deal is focused on the inward practice and outward act of repurposing materials and experiences that carry personal resonance. The exhibition is a mirror to the artist’s own life’s journey of self-reconstruction and preservation through the collaging of consciously safeguarded materials and images, seeing in them not only their inherent value, but also his own life’s potential for rebirth

Repurpose by Colby Deal is the inward practice and outward act of repurposing materials and experiences that carry personal resonance. This collection is a mirror to his own life's journey of self-reconstruction and preservation through the collaging of consciously safeguarded materials and images, seeing in them not only their inherent value but also his own life's potential for rebirth.
It's through this practice of artistic and personal repurposing that Colby communicates the connections that embody the importance of family, neighborhood, and community.

His respect goes beyond any geographical borders, encompassing communities he encounters through his travels.
Just as he contextualizes these materials in his artwork Colby also continuously reshapes and redefines his personal journey, emphasizing the shared experiences and values that bind us all together.

This exhibition mirrors his personal pilgrimage toward healing and inner peace. It marks a shift from a mindset concentrated on future endeavors to a profound understanding of his own motivations and the intrinsic meaning of being content but not complacent in his work and in his life.
