We are delighted to share these images from VENTURE, the season finale of Apollo Chamber Players’ American Story series, presented on May 22 at MATCH.

At the center of the evening was the world premiere of Hidden Figures: Shared Orbit (Figuras Ocultas: Órbita Compartida), a new Apollo commission by Mark Buller and John Cornelius inspired by the lives of Shirley K. Price and Miguel Hernandez.

This project brought together musicians, composers, historians, educators, and artists in a uniquely Houston story. We are grateful to Shirley K. Price, Jennifer Ross-Nazzal, Iván Moreno, Jolie Rocke, and Lorenzo Martinez for their contributions, and to Marlo Saucedo for the beautiful VENTURE artwork commissioned by Apollo.

This excerpt from Hidden Figures: Shared Orbit features music by Houston composer Mark Buller and tells part of the story of Miguel Hernandez, a Cuban immigrant who served in NASA’s Mission Control.

Developed with research and historical insight from Space Historian Jennifer Ross-Nazzal, Hidden Figures: Shared Orbit is a world premiere staged concert work collaboratively created by Houston composers Mark Buller and John Cornelius.

We are proud to bring stories like these to Houston, Space City itself. 🚀

Today, on Memorial Day, we pause in gratitude and remembrance for all who have served and sacrificed for our country. 🇺🇸

Throughout our recent seasons, Apollo Chamber Players has been honored to collaborate with Vet Tix by donating tickets to veterans, active duty military members, and their families. We have received many meaningful messages thanking us for the music and performances, but today, we want to turn that gratitude back to those who have served.

Thank you for your courage, your sacrifice, and your dedication to protecting our country and our freedoms. It is a true honor to share music with you and your families.

On this Memorial Day, we pause to honor the courage, sacrifice, and service of our national heroes. 🇺🇸

Looking back on this special moment from Game 1 of the 2022 ALDS, we are still deeply honored to have performed the National Anthem at Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston Astros, in front of thousands of fans during one of the most exciting postseason runs in Astros history.

This performance featured our esteemed friend, board member, collaborator, and extraordinary tenor Kenneth Gayle alongside Apollo Chamber Players:

This powerful season finale features the world premiere of Hidden Figures: Shared Orbit by John Cornelius and Mark Buller alongside Ludwig van Beethoven’s String Quartet in C Major, Op. 59, No. 3 Finale and Arthur Gottschalk’s Imágenes de Cuba.
