Our album We the People is on the first-round ballot. Released for America’s 250th anniversary, it explores democracy through music, with the string quartet as four equal voices.

The album opens with Daniel Bernard Roumain’s And Still We Cross, featuring narration by Kenneth B. Morris Jr., a direct descendant of Frederick Douglass and Booker T. Washington.

Composer and electric violinist Tracy Silverman joins us for Allegretto Groovando, his reimagining of the Allegretto from Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony for string quartet and electric violin.

More than 85 collaborators contribute to the album, including Houston’s Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA) Chorale, whose voices help bring Marcus Maroney’s The Color Blue and Howard Hanson’s Song of Democracy to life.

First-round voting: October 12–22.

On October 3, TRANQUILITY brought two world premieres by Anthony Brandt and Chitravina N. Ravikiran to Zilkha Hall at the Hobby Center, exploring one powerful question: How do we find calm?

Beyond the music, conversations with our composers offered valuable insights into the inspiration, creative process, and ideas behind these new works. These conversations are an important part of our concerts, giving audiences a deeper understanding of the music and the stories behind each world premiere.

What a night, Houston! ✨🎻

On October 3 at Zilkha Hall at the Hobby Center, we opened Season 19: Bold Serenity with TRANQUILITY, an evening centered around one question: How do we find calm?

Featuring two world premieres by Anthony Brandt and Chitravina N. Ravikiran, the program brought Carnatic and Western contemporary musical traditions together in a cross-cultural musical experience exploring conflict, distraction, stress, and ultimately, the search for tranquility.

From the excitement before the first note to celebrating together after the final bow, we loved seeing our patrons, artists, collaborators, and friends come together. Thank you, Houston, for joining us! ❤️

🚀 FROM HOUSTON TO MADISON!

The journey continues! After opening Season 19: Bold Serenity with TRANQUILITY in Houston, we’re taking the music on the road to Madison, Wisconsin, for Melharmony Festival 2026: Celebrating America 250. 🎻

We’ll reunite with Chitravina N. Ravikiran, creator of Melharmony and the “Mozart of Indian Classical Music,” and Dr. Anthony Brandt, composer, author, Rice University professor, and brain researcher, for Melody • Harmony • Melharmony: Where Musical Worlds Meet.

At the heart of the program are the two works we bring to life in TRANQUILITY: Ravikiran’s Illusion to Resolution and Brandt’s Resting States, bringing Carnatic and Western contemporary musical traditions into conversation while exploring tranquility and the modern mind’s search for calm.

We’ll also share the stage with Jeffrey Weiss, K. V. Prasad, K. S. Vishnudev, Sanjay Suresh, and Arjun Suresh.

We’ve been rehearsing, listening, and shaping every detail as we bring two world premieres to life for the opening of Season 19: Bold Serenity.

At the center of it all: How do we find calm?

We’re joined by Chitravina Ravikiran, composer, chitravina performer, and the “Mozart of Indian Classical Music,” Anthony Brandt, composer, author, Rice University professor, and brain researcher, and Ella Sharpe on double bass.

Together, we’re bringing to life two world premieres, interwoven and performed without pause: Ravikiran’s Illusion to Resolution and Brandt’s Resting States, including an excerpt from Ravikiran’s The Cosmic Knowledge, commissioned by Apollo in 2017.
