MotherDogStudios is the oldest surviving artist-run working warehouse space in Houston (40 years). It was created as a response to the visual arts communities’ need to provide working studio/exhibition space for local and visiting artists. It is a 22,000 square foot warehouse with 21 studios and an expansive exhibition space. Most spaces are 400 square feet. The rent for 400 sq ft spaces is $500 per month and that includes water and electricity. Location: 720 Walnut Street, Houston, TX 77002

Mother Dog Studios, an ARTISTIC survivor for 40 years and the oldest surviving Artist-run studio and exhibition space, will present its annual “open house” exhibition featuring its resident Artists. "ARTists-N-reZ" is an in-house group show curated by John Runnels, celebrating their 100 year old building during the 33rd Annual ARTists' Warehouse District event, ArtCrawl Houston 2025. Music provided by Fools on Stools.

The momentum of this year’s event will continue without the longtime directors and organizers John Runnels and Charlie Jean Sartwelle of Mother Dog Studios. Responsibilities this year will be assumed by Carla Bisong of Bisong Art Gallery with a group of neighborhood Artists, galleries, organizations, and businesses. This is a free event. Neighborhood parking available.

Here are some photos of the founders of Mother Dog Studios and artcrawl houston, Charlie Jean Sartwelle and John Runnels, finishing the installation of the "Gone Fishing" exhibition at Mother Dog Studios.

The last photo, taken by the Houston Chronicle, is of Charlie Jean when she was 15 years old out fishing with her dad! The Summer of 1959. Perhaps that photo was the inspiration for the theme of the show...
