The time has finally come! The Garden Theatre is thrilled to give you our most requested musical by our patrons: The Rocky Horror Show! Rocky Horror will run August 13-29, 2027 (including special midnight performances!).

In this cult classic, sweethearts Brad and Janet, stuck with a flat tire during a storm, discover the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter. As their innocence is lost, Brad and Janet meet a houseful of wild characters, including a rocking biker and a creepy butler. Elaborate dance numbers and rock songs reveal Frank-N-Furter’s latest creation: a muscular man named “Rocky.”

This production is not suitable for those under the age of 16. Parental discretion is strongly advised.

The Garden Theatre is excited to bring the regional premiere of Nassim Soleimanpour’s Blank to our audiences, running June 17-20, 2027. Blank is a follow up to Soleimanpour’s internationally acclaimed White Rabbit Red Rabbit, which The Garden Theatre produced in 2022.

In a joint effort between audience and performer, the gaps in the script are filled in to reveal a story that celebrates the human imagination. As formally inventive as it is engaging, Blank reverses the typical theatre experience: A script riddled with blanks leaves the audience in charge of how the story will unfold. The concept might be simple, the result is nothing short of empowering as a random audience member sees his or her future determined by the imagination of others.

Known for plays without directors, sets and rehearsals, Soleimanpour takes it to new extremes. Each night Nassim’s play full of blanks is to be completed by a new performer before a live audience. The play becomes a story machine to share the life-story of the playwright, the performer and a random audience member.

Much like the internationally acclaimed White Rabbit Red Rabbit, Soleimanpour’s piece invites critical reflection how our human identity is constructed around the stories we tell. Simultaneously, it celebrates the communal and elusive nature of theatre, as audience members shout, laugh, gasp and collaborate to write the evening’s story, a story that is irrevocably theirs and will never be told in the same way ever again. And now for a little magic! Puffs, or: Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic & Magic will run June 4-13, 2027. And while this show parodies a certain boy wizard, the best part of it is the original author makes not a dime off of it… And we’re doing it during Pride! Gay magic!

For seven years a certain boy wizard went to Wizard School. This, however, is not his story. This is the story of the Puffs… who just happened to be there too. A play for anyone who has never been destined to save the world. “An alternative narrative for the underdog” (Wall Street Journal).

Puffs, or: Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic & Magic is a Potter-inspired comedy for anyone who has ever felt like a secondary character in someone else’s story. The play that “never goes more than a minute without a laugh” (Nerdist) gives you a new look at a familiar adventure from the perspective of three new heroes just trying to make it through magic school. Alongside them are the Puffs, a group of well-meaning, loyal rejects with a thing for badgers “who are so lovable and relatable, you’ll leave the theater wishing they were in the stories all along” (Hollywood Life). Their “hilariously heartfelt!” (Metro) and epic journey takes the classic story to new places and reimagines what a boy wizard hero can be.

Did you see the last show we announced and think, “Well that’s the most family friendly show The Garden has ever done”? You would be correct in thinking that, but of course we’re adding a little twist. Running March 26-April 4, 2027 (at the same time as our family musical in the same theatre on the same set) is the adults-only, dark comedy Dog Sees God, written by Bert V. Royal. Dog Sees God takes the comic book characters you know and love and gives you the story of what happens when they reach high school.

When CB’s dog dies from rabies, CB begins to question the existence of an afterlife. His best friend is too burnt out to provide any coherent speculation; his sister has gone goth; his ex-girlfriend has recently been institutionalized; and his other friends are too inebriated to give him any sort of solace. But a chance meeting with an artistic kid, the target of this group’s bullying, offers CB a peace of mind and sets in motion a friendship that will push teen angst to the very limits.

In a jaw-droppingly different adaptation of an American classic, Bert V. Royal’s sharp story takes on all the things that make being a teen the most emotionally turbulent time of your life.

Happiness is… The next show of our 26/27 season! Don’t miss You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown, running March 19-April 4, 2027. The Peanuts gang appear in this fun-loving musical written by Clark Gesner, with additional dialogue by Michael Mayer and additional music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa.

Based on the beloved Charles Schulz comic strip, Charlie Brown and the entire Peanuts bunch explore life’s great questions as they play baseball, struggle with homework, sing songs, swoon over their crushes, and celebrate the joy of friendship.

This heartwarming musical is fun for all ages and a great introduction to musical theatre for our youngest audience members. Join Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Lucy, and the rest of the gang for an exciting time at the theatre!

Today’s the day! Buckle in as we announce the remainder of our 26/27 season! First up… She’s back for the third year in a row to tell her tale from her trailer atop Mount Crumpit. That’s right! Chaney Moore as Cindy Lou Who returns for everyone’s favorite adults-only holiday tradition. Pour your martinis and light your cigs, because Cindy will only be here from December 17-27, 2026.

Who’s Holiday! is a wildly funny and heartfelt adults-only comedy that tells the story of Cindy Lou Who, now all grown up and residing in a beaten-down trailer in the snowy hills of Mount Crumpit, as she recalls (in between b**g rips) that Christmas Eve she first met the Grinch and the twisted turn of events her life has now taken.

Xanadu opened our 26/27 season, and we’ve been asked many times what’s next. Well the wait is almost over! The remainder of the season will be announced very soon with 6 additional productions. You can expect to see the return of our favorite holiday Who, as well as the story of a good man (both the young and grown up versions), the tale of a magical school full of quirky badgers, and a mystery that we truly can’t talk about until you see it. The Houston Press 2026 Houston Theater Awards were announced this morning, and we're thrilled to share that our production of Company was a finalist for Best Musical! Our Joanne, Angela Pinina, was also a finalist for Best Supporting Actress! Congrats to our entire cast and production team that brought this Sondheim classic to life back in April! And a huge shoutout to all of our colleagues in the Houston theatre scene for their recognition. We are honored to be part of such a dynamic and robust arts scene here in Houston!
