HAPPENERS HAPPEN 🍊

Last month Kat Briley attended the Happening for the very first time, and was reeeeal into what we're doing here. They ran into Andrew at Danny Speedos after the show, pitched him an idea, and he said yes.

ITS THAT EASY YALL

KATS IDEA :
"Cultivate artistic expression and collective creation through an interactive life-painting experience. Using the many forms of our audience members, shadow play, found objects, and paint to create a piece of art that captures what's HAPPENING in a whole new way."

The best thing about The Happening is how much it connects and inspires people. Meeting folks like Kat (who's really only here because their van broke down so now they're kinda stuck in Houston) and helping them go from audience members to Happening artists is a huge part of what we aim to do here. Speaking of, we're actually in-talks to create a Performance Art workshop oriented around that mission in the very near future.. 👀

Oh, Kat also runs a non-profit called that's currently operating out of 2nd Ward that y'all should definitely check out!

ART CAR TALK-BACK 🍊

We're stoked to have some amazing Art Car folks joining us this Friday at The Happening! People from our team got the opportunity to help make one last year, and we've been kinda geeked about it ever since. It's a really amazing, true blue HOU thing and we think everyone should do it.

But it turns out knowing where to start and understanding what you're getting into is pretty daunting for a lot of young artist!

So the idea of having builders come out to talk about their experiences, and have an honest conversation about the work, the wins, the loses, the parade, and everything else in-between is something we're very very excited to bring to our audience.

Big thanks to Sarah Gish, Richard Tuthill, Jada August, Joseph Weiss, and Kim Hammond for agreeing to bring their cars and be on the panel!

The more art cars the better though, so if you have one and you want to bring it on out - feel free! Here's hoping we can inspire some new folks to take the wheel and make cars of their own someday.

RECAPPENING HAPPENS 🍊

What a wonderful thing we all get to do together.

Recently an older art lover said something along the lines of how even though they aren't "our audience" (because of their age) they love this show so much because of how they get to explore and learn from what they see happen here.

That meant the world to hear. Not that it's just "fun" (though it definitely is) but that its a thing that people feel like they really get something out of... and when we look at these pictures and see how many different spirits come and share their energy, their hands, and their happiness with us each month it's truly awe-Inspiring.

The Happening is yours, y'all. It's for you, your friends, your family, your neighbors, and for anyone else who wants it. It's free. It's safe (enough). And it is made up of nothing more than the people who keep showing up to be part of it.

The Happening is never quite as it seems...

Unless it seems like how you want to spend your Friday night, then it's EXACTLY how it seems.

We've been trying to book David Dove for two years, "performance art" is not a strong enough phrase to describe what Una Behdi does but it's all we've got, Wrestlers Court is everything you hope it is, PJ Verhoest has one of the best set names we've ever seen, Indigo Dewdrop is like woah woah woah, and Karren Lovelady is going to serve up something that's definitely.. not on the menu.
