MISSING PATIENT FILE: STEVEN STEPHANS, September 1919

Steven Stephans arrived at Amelia Asylum awaiting trial for multiple murders and a string of violent crimes. County authorities claimed the jail could no longer hold him.
Stephans reportedly spent nights screaming at people who weren't there, clawing at the walls of his cell, and violently attacking anyone who came near him. After several incidents involving guards and other prisoners, he was transferred to Amelia Asylum for observation.

The asylum notes contained one repeated warning: EXTREMELY VIOLENT. NEVER APPROACH ALONE.

In September 1919, Stephans vanished. His murder trial was postponed until he could be found, but it never happened.

Some say the asylum lost a patient that night.
Others say the Asylum unleaded him into the woods to give him more room to hunt.

WHAT IS AMELIA FRIGHTFEST?
New here? Welcome to the nightmare.

Amelia Frightfest is an outdoor haunted trail experience. This year we're bringing the story of the abandoned Amelia Asylum to the woods of Tom Scott Park in Amelia, VA. Once you enter, you’ll make your way through the dark woods where escaped patients, terrifying creatures, and things better left unexplained may be waiting around every corner.
This isn’t your average walk in the woods.

Throughout the season, we’ll also have special themed nights and weekends, including Hero’s Weekend, Blackout Weekend, Hollywood Horrors Weekend, and No Scare Night.

AMELIA ASYLUM ARCHIVES
Recovered Incident Report: Children's Ward
In 1942, staff began documenting repeated encounters with an unclaimed rag doll in the Children's Ward. No child claimed it and no records were found that explained where it came from.

Each evening, the doll was locked away. Each morning, it was found somewhere else. Every attempt to remove it from the ward failed.

The final note in the report simply reads: "Do not attempt to relocate the doll again." Some things were never meant to leave Amelia Asylum.
