Just finished Cokie Robert's book, "We Are Our Mother's Daughters". It was great. Her sister, Barbara Sigmund, was mayor of Princeton and a very good friend of mine. I just loved her. She was smart, ethical, humorous, decent and generally a wonderful woman. She died of cancer in her 50's. I miss her so much. She came down from Princeton, where I covered her for the Trentonian, a newspaper there, and visited me when I moved down the shore. We need more women like them.

My Krusteaz cinnamon swirl cake is in the oven. And so are the potatoes. Now do I do flounder or hamburger? I think I will go with the flounder. We have been eating my meatballs and spaghetti often, time for something else. It was a lovely half of a Sunday, the first part was gloomy, but the afternoon brightened up. Today, I think, is the last day of summer. Goodbye old friend, I will miss you. I liked your sunny days.

The sun is in, the sun is out, it cannot make its mind up. The wind is blowing now, and it is cool. What happened to the merry days of May I want to know. Tomorrow is my birthday. I hope it is nice.

I've walked the driveway three times in search of the mail which is still not there. I usually get my Sunday paper on a Saturday. Still not there and it is one o'clock. Come on paper boy, or man, show up.

The dahlias are out and blooming, the yellow one with the mauve tips. And so is one bunch of purple ones. The yellow roses and the red ones are out. Flowers, flowers everywhere. It must be Spring.

Just spoke with my brother in Florida. They have great sunny weather, unlike our morose weather. I would like all that sun.

The day it get surlier, and ugly and grey. And I have to go to the store for some bread and supplies. Ugg.

Making my hot dog, but there is no roll. Have to use rye bread. Oh well. I will live.

I dusted the den, and lemon oiled the wooden furniture, and vacuumed the rug. The things you do on rainy days. Boring.
