Happy International Picnic Day! πŸŒ³β˜€οΈ

Looking for the perfect excuse to get outside, enjoy the beautiful weather, and spend time with family? Look no further! June 18th is International Picnic Day, and here at the Fayette County Family YMCA, we love any holiday that combines healthy eating with active family time in nature.

Whether you're heading to a local park or just setting up a blanket in your own backyard, we’ve put together the ultimate checklist and a crowd-pleasing, fresh recipe to make your picnic planning a breeze.

πŸŽ’ The Ultimate Picnic Checklist
Don't leave the house without these essentials to keep your picnic comfortable, safe, and fun:

The Setup: A large, sturdy blanket (bonus points if it has a waterproof backing!) or a portable pop-up table and chairs.

The Cooler: Plenty of ice packs to keep your fresh food and drinks at a safe temperature.

The Gear: Reusable plates, utensils, napkins, a trash bag to leave the park clean, and a wet cloth or wet wipes for sticky hands.

Sun & Bug Protection: Sunscreen and bug spray are a must for outdoor fun.

YMCA Style Activities: Bring along a frisbee, a football, a deck of cards, or a soccer ball to get everyone moving after you eat!

There are moments that remind us just how special summer camp can be. ❀️

Today, our more experienced campers headed out on their first field trip since the dreaded COVID years, and seeing their excitement made our hearts so happy!

A huge thank you to Brigette Hisey and all of the amazing volunteers with the Growing Better Parks and Roots to Words Project for making today's adventure to Deer Creek possible. Our campers had the opportunity to explore nature, learn, discover, and create memories that will last a lifetime.

We are so grateful for community partners who invest their time and talents into enriching the lives of our youth. Thank you for giving our campers such a fun day outdoors! πŸŒ³β˜€οΈπŸƒ
