Bayou Country Sports Park

Bayou Country Sports Park To provide the public with information and updates regarding the planned 158 acre regional park and sports complex.

Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government together with Recreation District 2,3 are working to design, construct and operate a 140 acre regional park and sports complex in Houma. The master plan was completed in May 2013 by landscape architect Joey Furr of Joseph Furr Design Studio, the entry road was built and initial site preparation for Phase 1 has already begun. Phase 1 will consist of several

sub-phases, but the plan is to begin with the required infrastructure (water, sewer, drainage, etc.) with completion sometime in late winter or early spring of 2015. The next step will be to construct 5 softball fields, 5 baseball fields and at least 3 soccer fields to have them ready for play in the fall of 2015 and finally to construct the associated amenities such as concessions, restrooms, seating and parking. Future phases will be initiated and completed as funding allows. The total park cost estimate is approximately $23 million. Funding sources include, but are not limited to, Parish and Rec District 2,3, State Capital Outlay, hotel/motel tax, and grants. The master plan includes a softball 5-plex, a baseball 5-plex and a multi-purpose field 4-plex. There are also 17 soccer fields of various sizes, an 8 court tennis complex, a gymnasium with indoor volleyball and basketball courts, two dog parks, a splash park, a skate park, an 18-hole disc golf course, sand volleyball courts, canoeing and kayak facility, fishing, a sandy beach area, a network of cycling and jogging/walking trails and a Great Lawn that can be utilized for a multitude of community events and gatherings. Access to the park will be from both Hwy 311 and Valhi Blvd and there will be ample parking and amenities such as concessions and restrooms for all activities. The plan includes two water features that will not only provide for recreation, but will also serve to improve the storm water runoff for the region by serving as additional water storage during storm events. The entire park can also be used as temporary water storage since the field are being designed to collect and drain rapidly. The park will be beautifully landscaped and will be designed with safety and security in mind both for the park users and the surrounding property owners. The park will be operated and maintained by Recreation District 2,3. The Parish is providing the Rec District with technical support during the complicated funding, design and construction phases.
