AMD has confirmed that its AM5 platform will remain supported through 2029, meaning future Ryzen CPUs based on upcoming Zen architectures will continue to work on existing AM5 motherboards.

The company says it sees no reason to move to a new socket until technologies like DDR6 memory and PCIe 6.0 become mature, affordable, and widely adopted.

Customer came in to get his gaming PC fixed and upgraded. We discussed options and prices. From R5 5600g, 64gb DDR4, RX 6650xt, 1 TB NVMe, 650W PSU. To: Intel i7 12th Gen with Asus Rog Strix Z690 motherboard (he brought in). We supplied new case, 850W PSU, Asus Prime RTX 5070ti GPU, MSI 2 fan AIO. We moved over his 64GB DDR4 and Kingston 1TB NVMe. Came in at 10AM picked up at 3PM. He was happy.

Intel's chips draw much more power than AMD's, like 50% - 100% more on comparable CPU power. Therefore, Intel CPUs generates much more heat which has to be cooled. Furthermore, Intel limits consumed power by lowering peak wattage used. Generally, AMD's 9000 series are efficiency winners under peak performance, runs cooler and can run at higher frequencies. All this is explained by the 'node' sizes: 10nm, 7nm, 5nm, 4nm, 3nm, 2 nm. Intel's foundries are way behind TSMC. AMD enjoys TSMC's leading edge to produce all chips for AMD. Intel mixes different nm chiplets. This also explains AMD's increased market share for data/AI centers, AMD's EPYC chips, over Intel's XEON chips. Cooling systems for data/AI centers are expensive to build, maintain and have high electric bill. By the way, TSMC makes NVIDIA's chips.
