Meanwhile back in Colorado, Doc Whimsey's Bird of Every So Often, is still hopping around in the San Juan National Forest behind Bayfield, masquerading we think as a White-breasted nuthatch.

Knowing that old TV shows are cherished memories of many folks’ childhoods and because of that certainly not intending to trash any show as one of the dumbest waste of human endeavor ever, Doc Whimsy offers Fort Courage, a replica of a fort of the same name featured in the two seasons of the series F Troop. (And note I’m not claiming the show was one of the dumbest waste of human endeavor ever, even if it was.) Just over the state line in Arizona westbound on I-40, the fort and adjoining 57.22 acres are for sale at $995K, which seems a bit pricey, but then again who can put a price on memories? https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/fort-courage

Meanwhile in Valle, AZ., better known as Grand Canyon Junction where U.S. Route 180 and State Route 64, the former heading toward Flagstaff, the latter, toward Williams, the weirdest Ace Hardware you’ve ever seen. Originally built as a house, it’s hard to imagine anyone living there, it’s small rooms with concrete block walls not really warm and inviting for families or hardware. Photo from a few months back.

So, Doc Whimsy apologizes, falls prostate and nibbles on the dust carrots left from yesterday’s whine, writhes in agony each night for leaving the legions of whimsyteers rudderless with unwiped behinds. Unsure if poor health would lift the oppressive hand holding him down, grinding his face into the cold pavement of depression until it was thousands of miles on the other side of ground meat, Doc’s also been dealing with a crisis of faith as to whether Whimsy still exists. For the moment he’s decided “who cares” and offers a new feature to help kickstart American Whimsy as well as putting out the beak of friendship to ornithologists around the world. Called Doc Whimsy’s Bird of the Day or Bird of Every Other Day or Bird of the Month, this irregularly regular feature starts out with the Clark Nutcracker (with a plea to whimsyteer Clarke Morrison to please educate yourself about this bird).

Meanwhile in downtown Lake City, CO, a pair of torso-less planters race for the skies. No quick Google fix as to the concept or responsible parties, so you're on your own.

So stepping out of the cretinish shell of my alter ego Davey Boy Cornwell and sliding like greased anarchy into the skin of Doc Whimsy and again pursuing whimsy wherever it may roam, I submit: Emy and I missed the blessing of tow vehicles at St. Francis of Assisi Church just a few miles east of Del Norte, CO, coordinates 37.647320, -106.251643 for the coordinately minded among you. Sign on the grounds says the building’s just used twice a year these days: the Feast of St. Francis on Oct. 4 and the Feast of San Isidro on May 15. So I respectfully met some the spirits in the cemetery there and am pretty sure some of them to threw a few blessings Emmy’s way. Nicest spirits I’ve met in a very long time. American Whimsy Media is on the story and will have the complete innards of the everything and as our motto says, “You’ll be smarter for it.”
