Whatnot Recording - the short story

Whatnot Recording is the studio branch of parent company, Jon Usry Music LLC. Whatnot Recording is a Digital Audio Workstation-based platform utilizing Avid Pro Tools 12.6. The goal of this studio is to provide production guidance, tracking and mixing for fledgling artists, as well as mobile recording services to the Greater Memphis area.

Owner, Jon Usry, is a native of Memphis, with roots reaching back to Watkins-Overton High School’s Creative and Performing Arts program, where Jon excelled as a trumpet player, while dabbling in recording at home. In the late 1980s, Jon moved to northern California where he continued his journey into multi-track recording, while serving as lead vocalist and songwriter for several untitled heavy rock bands. In 2009, Jon entered the Commercial Music Department of American River College, pursuing a degree in Recording. As a result, he carries an Associate in Arts degree, graduating as an honor student (PTK). Jon went on to study vocal performance, music theory and composition at William Jessup University in Rocklin, California. The life path of Jon Usry - coupled with his academic achievements and multi-instrumental skills - provides him the intuition and practical knowledge to assist in a plethora of musical ventures. From composing brass quartets, string arrangements, metal, rock, and pop instrumentation - vocal harmonies, full orchestrations, and the ability to capture all of these in a studio environment - Jon Usry is your perfect candidate to produce your next musical vision.
