As our fall and winter months hit so do our temperatures. Freezing temps can take their toll on our RVs and Motorhomes, that's why we need to be proactive and winterize if we are done using them for the winter months. You can play it safe when temps hit low 40s and 30s start thinking about winterizing.
Once the water freezes, it will expand and crack your pipes, which can be costly and time-consuming to repair. Also, can be a toll on your toilet valves if any water is left in them causing them to crack and leak.
Simple steps to follow if you plan to winterize yourself.
1. Buy RV Antifreeze
2. Remove inline water filters (as you are pumping antifreeze through your water system)
3. Drain and flush your black and gray tanks.
4. Drain water heater tank.
5. Open all faucets and remove all drain plugs. (Be sure to open both the hot and cold lines and leave them open for a minimum of fifteen minutes to ensure all water has drained out.)
6. Close all faucets and replace drain plugs once water has drained entirely. (before adding antifreeze)
7. Bypass the hot water heater (before adding antifreeze)
8. Connect the system to antifreeze.
9. Turn the water faucet closest to the water pump on. (start with cold side first till you start seeing pink then turn the hot on till you see pink)
10. Repeat this process for all sinks.
11. Flush the toilet until you see antifreeze.
12. Pour a cup of antifreeze down each sink’s drain and into the toilet.
13. Prep the RV for final storage. (Turn the hot water heater heating element off and ensure all faucets are closed.)
Now your RV should be good to go.
* We do carry antifreeze it is $9.99 a gallon *
