Moss Rock Festival is an annual outdoor, fall weekend exploring Nature, Art + Design, Smart Living, Craft Beer, and more. Join us for MRF's 19th year November 2 & 3 at the Hoover Metropolitan Complex in Hoover, Alabama. Artistry, imagination, innovation, and fun await thousands of visitors as saturated colors begin to blanket the area. Discover juried artists, makers, and crafters inspired by natu

re and design alongside more exhibitors in the Smart Living Market and Sweetery. There are curated exhibitions, plein air artists painting live, and lots of nature connections to explore including wildlife meet and greets, pet adoptions, the School Planet Project Sculpture Installations, plus tree giveaways to enter and pollinator packets to take home as part of the Take Root | Take Flight Legacy Project. Creative talent soars at the WonderKid Studios and the Crescent Stage live music and dance performances while the food trucks, lounges, and the 13th Beer Garden tasting event will have you savoring the tastes and moments at the Festival. Bzzzzzz!!! Insects will be the nature focus of this year’s Planet Project school outreach and sculptures installations at the eco-creative festival. We can’t wait to see what students create for the big Fall weekend at the Hoover Metropolitan Complex.

Godwin Kou is a well-known Atlanta based Chinese artist. He was born in Guangzhou (Canton) China. He started studying calligraphy and Chinese painting at early age. In 1985, his artworks were first showed in an exhibition held by the Museum of Luís de Camões in Macao. Godwin specializes in watercolor painting. He uses a brush, ink and watercolor to paint on rice paper, silk, leaf, and canvas.

Cool Green Trees is a program of the Cawaco Resource Conservation and Development Council, a nonprofit organization that connects Central Alabama communities to resources and partnerships that support economic and environmental development. In collaboration with the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), CGT developed a StoryMap tool to identify UHIs in Birmingham and surrounding areas. This data-driven approach helps prioritize the areas most in need of tree cover and relief from the heat.

Planting trees offers multiple benefits beyond cooling. Trees help reduce flooding by improving stormwater management and enhance air quality by filtering pollutants and producing oxygen. These outcomes are essential for creating healthier, more livable communities.

CGT tree generous sapling donations tendered by Ruffner Mountain have been part of MRF’s tree planting initiative and giveaways for the last several years.

“Songbird” by MRF’s 2026 Featured Artist, Penny Dobson's Art, will be showcased on/in the 21st annual Festival poster, tshirt, marketing ads, and more.

We love how Penny takes familiar and vintage objects and reimagines them as her canvases. As soon as we saw “Songbird”, we knew this was the piece for the 21st annual festival campaign. It melds several of the MRF’s core themes including nature, wildlife, recycling, creative ingenuity and vision. It’s music to our eyes! We hope you love it as much as we do. 📣 2026 FEATURED ARTIST: Penny Dobson 📣 It’s our pleasure to announce that mixed media artist Penny Dobson of Tuscaloosa, AL (IG: ) has been selected as the featured poster artist of the 21st annual Moss Rock Festival slated for November 7-8, 2026 at the Hoover Metropolitan Complex.

The ingenuity, perspective, and vision behind Penny's work is very Moss Rock Festival. Her art often showcases great vintage objects she finds/collects (toys, tools, instruments, appliances, clocks, etc.) then reimagines into unique works adorned by oil painting, seed beads, and more. Each piece is signed on the front using an old penny too. It’s the perfect artist signature for Penny. We can’t wait to show her off to collectors this Fall!

APPLY FOR YR 21! 📸 Jessica Leitch and The Little Red Print Shop creates hand-carved, hand-printed relief prints that take inspiration from everyday objects, food, flora & fauna. She hand carves rubber blocks of her muses, everything from farmer’s market veggies to florals, birds, and baked goods!
