Mele Hoʻopulapula: Vol. 1
Mele Hoʻopulapula, Vol. 1 is a project of Kāhuli Leo Leʻa, bringing mele practitioners from various Hawaiian homestead lands, to record and perform live various songs for homesteads—mele hoʻopulapula. The one-hour presentation features mele performances by Del Beazley of Nānākuli, Kīhei Nahale-a of Keaukaha, the Napoleon ʻohana of Hoʻolehua, as well as additional adorations for Kalanianaʻole by Manu Boyd, Maelia Loebenstein-Carter, Keliʻi Ruth, and the Domingo brothers. Jonah Kahanuola Solatorio hosts these practitioners, along with Hailama Farden of Kamehameha Schools, and Tyler ʻIokepa Gomes of the Department of Hawaiian Homelands, to create a fragrant offering that honors Kalanianaʻole and 100 years of the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act.
