Beware the ides of March...
The Hawaii Shakespeare Festival, in partnership with Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra's Sounds of Shakespeare Festival, invites you to join us on the ides of March for a reading of select scenes from Julius Caesar, followed by a discussion of the themes of the show and how they relate to the modern day.
Caesar returns triumphant from his civil war, but his ambition threatens the Republic. Some believe that the only recourse is his death, but their short-lived success simply leads to further bloodshed.
With direction from Alex Munro and Jasmine Haley Anderson, our actors read the following excerpts:
Act I Scene II & Act II Scene I
Act III Scene I
Act II Scene III
Between excerpts, we will discuss how the events and themes of Julius Caesar echo throughout time, especially how they confront the current crises happening in the world. The discussion will be moderated by the Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra's Michael-Thomas Foumai. A 10 minute Q&A will follow the reading.
