It's the end of the week! Happy everyone! Check out these photos from our TYA production of Doug Cooney's "The Very Persistent Gappers of Frip," directed by Mark Branner at Kennedy Theatre in Spring 2014 (just over 10 years ago)! 🐐

“Gappers” tells the story of a smart and hard-working girl, Capable, her recently widowed father, and her neighbors in the village of Frip. The children of Frip spend their days combing gappers from the goats, and returning them to the sea. But one day, the gappers begin to converge only on Capable’s goats, and the young woman must decide whether to ask her neighbors for help, do all the work herself, or give up on goats and her family’s livelihood altogether.

Opening in 7 days! Late Night Theatre Co. in collaboration with UHM Department of Theatre and Dance and Kennedy Theatre presents "Gothmass," conceptualized and directed by PhD candidate Mariah Massengill. In the Earle Ernst Lab next Saturday and Sunday at 8:30pm. 🕸️

"Gothmass" is an interactive, raunchy, warming experience inspired by a local event held in Waikiki a few years ago. On the bill are collaboratively and independently created performances (such as dances, songs, and short plays) that use holidays, spirituality, and alternative living as themes to tell stories of members in our community. We hope you enjoy our spin on this formative event and are inspired to see more underground and experimental art on island. Most importantly, we hope you and yours feel a little more seen this holiday season.

🎫 Tickets will be avilable at the Kennedy Theatre Box Office up to one hour prior to the show! For more information, visit manoa.hawaii.edu/liveonstage/gothmass

We are back with the last of the month! Check out these pictures from our 2015 production of James Lapine's "Sunday in the Park," directed by Paul T. Mitri! 🏞️

This Pulitzer Prize-winning musical distills past and present into enchanting, poignant truths about art, love and life. Inspired by George Seurat’s world-famous painting, "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte," this play breathes life into the masterpiece and paints an artistic portrait of Seurat himself and his obsession with art. Then it fast-forwards 100 years to his great-grandson as a mirror to the past.🪞

This week! Pei-Ling Kao presents "Chop," a piece combining martial arts, urban dance, and whimsical movement to create an uplifting experience that encourages joy and creativity. 🥋

Kao's other piece, "境 Jing," is a fusion of Tai Chi Dao Ying, martial arts, and contemporary movement, accompanied by music composed by Jorge Bachmann. This work invites audiences to explore their surroundings through the interplay of motion and stillness, highlighting the importance of balance in life.

Amy Schiffner’s "SuperModality," set to original music by Jonathan Sypert, is a hyper-physical exploration of sound, beat, and rhythm within the body. The bold and unapologetic choreography, shifting from direct to supple energies, invites the audience to feel the pulse of the music and move in their seats, fully immersed in the performance. 🥁🔊

🎫 Don't miss out on "Metamorphosis Dance Concert" November 20-24, 2024 in the Earle Ernst Lab! Tickets are available online at manoa.hawaii.edu/liveonstage/mdc
