Happy Flashback Friday! In 2012, Kennedy Theatre had its annual dance concert, “Ocean’s Motion,” where every movement, music piece, puppet, and dance was inspired by the ocean! This fantastical production created a world full of beautiful dancing sea creatures, making it a fun experience for all ages.

Kennedy Theatre's 2026-2027 Season - Finding Home in the Extraordinary🎭

The visual campaign for Finding Home in the Extraordinary was developed over several months of collaboration.

Generative AI was one of the digital tools used in developing this season’s artwork, alongside digital illustration, photography, and other design techniques. Real human artists were utilizing real tools and making real decisions, with multiple design iterations based on months of research and consultation.

The concepts, creative direction, and final selections were shaped to create a cohesive visual identity for the season.

We hope to see you at Kennedy Theatre supporting the hard work of our talented students, guest artists, community collaborators, faculty and staff members this season.

🎟️ Tickets for our first Dance Concert, EPIC, are on sale today!

For this Flashback Friday, we’re looking back at a recent performance in 2019, “‘Au‘a ‘la: Holding On” by Tammy Hailiʻōpua Baker. In this incredible play, four UHM haumāna are transported to various pivotal points in Hawaiian history. For these students, visiting different historical moments when mana shifted allowed them to better understand their own history and mana as kānaka maoli.

Happy Flashback Friday! “Whose Life is it Anyway?” was a 1981 production by Brian Clark and directed by Roger Long. The play explores the life of a young sculptor who becomes paralyzed after an automobile accident. The conflicts between those committed to preserving life and human dignity, and the right to life or death, are deeply analyzed in this thought-provoking piece.

A company of 25 students, alumni, faculty and theatre professionals from UH Mānoa will travel to Lahaina for four performances from August 7–8.

As Lahaina marks three years since the wildfires, Lele Wale returns not as a finished work, but as an offering. It honors those who were lost, celebrates the strength of those who remain, and reminds audiences that the heart of Lahaina has always been and continues to be its people.
