Happy Flashback Friday! In 2010, Kennedy Theatre had a special performance in collabration with East-West Center. "Hands Percussion Team" is an innovative Chinese-Malaysian drum team that also specializes in acrobatics. They utilize rebana, Malay drums, as well as gamelan.

For this Flashback Friday, we're spotlighting "The Very Persistent Gappers of Frip" by Doug Cooney and directed by Mark Branner in 2014. "Gappers" are silly and fun fish-like lifeforms that annoyingly stick to the back of goats, causing trouble for the people of the village Frip! This puppet musical was a wild and theatrical piece perfect for all ages to enjoy.

Happy Flashback Friday! In 2018, "Fights and Delights: Three Chinese Comedies" by Elizabeth Wichmann-Walczak premiered on Kennedy Theatre's mainstage! Traditional Chinese theatre was translated into English to create three Xiqu comedies involving acrobatics, adorable lovers, and exhilarating battles for all ages to enjoy.

For this Flashback Friday, we're taking a look at "Machinal," a play by Sophie Treadwell that asks "How far would you go to be free?" Premiering on stage in 2000 and directed by Kelly Williams, this compelling production exposed the isolation and dehumanization created by technology and how that affects one's identity.

Happy Flashback Friday! Today, we are recalling "Impulse! Dance and the Drum," a 1997 dance production by Gregg Lizenberry and Betsy Fisher. This upbeat performance utilized the powerful drum to create both traditional and original choreographic pieces.

For this Flashback Friday, we're looking at "Da Taming of Da Shrew," directed by Glenn Cannon in 1997. This entertaining production took a local twist on the original Shakespeare play, framing the story and characters as if they were born and raised in Honolulu.
