This one's a tribute to my childhood, my Hip-Hop upbringing, and every beat boxer who gave me a steady rhythm to freestyle to.
Yes, I freestyled. Won battles and competitions too. Know your history. LOL ๐ Shout out to those who know. โญ ๐ค
This mix was supposed to be a 5-minute tribute edit for my live shows, but I never had the heart to trim it. It just sat in my production folder. Think I used it once on a livestream. Glad it's finally seeing the light.
Big shout out to 808 Natives and Wahiawa's own Jonski Beat (John Billaber-Mangca), Aiea's Princes of Percussion (P.O.P.) and their own ACE (Keone Wilson) [RIP], Moanalua's Radical Rob Onekea of Skream Team, and last but not least, another Hawaii Hip-Hop legend out of Aiea, Charlotte Henderson-Keamo aka Lady Q-pid.
These people brought beats with passion and purpose. They shook stages over mics and speakers that moved crowds at events and malls. Were they the only ones in Hawaii? Not even close. But they're the ones I can speak on personally, with full confidence. I was there. I witnessed it. They went to battle for me, and I for them.
Thank you for laying down those relentless, devastating beats. You helped us plant that flag on top of Hawaii Hip-Hop first, so the
future had something solid to build on. For those who didn't know, now you do.
โจณ This one's for my fellow 80s kids.
โจณ For anyone who couldn't afford a drum machine.
โจณ For anyone who needed an impromptu beat just to perform.
โจณ And honestly, for anyone, at any age, who discovered beat boxing and decided to give it a shot for the heck of it.
