An important update regarding our Season Finale this Sunday, June 7.
Renée Fleming has been advised by her medical team to rest and, unfortunately, will be unable to travel to Hawaiʻi to perform due to illness. We know many of our patrons were looking forward to this special appearance, and we join her team in wishing her a full and speedy recovery.
While we share in the disappointment, Music & Artistic Director Dane Lam and the HSO artistic team immediately got to work creating a season finale worthy of this orchestra and this community.
We are thrilled to welcome back acclaimed violinist Simone Porter, whose performance of the Sibelius Violin Concerto with HSO in 2023 left a lasting impression on audiences. She joins us to perform Bruch's beloved Violin Concerto No. 1 in G Minor.
The evening will also feature the world premiere of Michael-Thomas Foumai's ʻĀina Hānau (Birth Land), a collaboration with former Hawaiʻi Poet Laureate Brandy Nālani McDougall, before concluding with Holst's epic orchestral masterpiece, The Planets.
From the ʻāina to the cosmos, this is the Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra at its most powerful and its most celebratory.
