Something deeply meaningful is happening this Sunday, and the HSO would love for you to be there. 🌺

The Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra will be premiering ʻĀina Hānau (Birth Land), a new commissioned work by Composer in Residence Michael-Thomas Foumai — inspired by and named after Brandy Nālani McDougall’s book - with her own text and recitation woven throughout.

Alongside this world premiere, the evening features violinist Simone Porter performing Bruch’s beloved Violin Concerto No. 1, and Holst’s sweeping, iconic The Planets. It’s an evening that will stay with you.

Come early - there’s a Pre-Concert Conversation at 3:00 PM before the 4:00 PM performance at Neal S. Blaisdell Concert Hall.

An important update regarding our Season Finale this Sunday, June 7.

Renée Fleming has been advised by her medical team to rest and, unfortunately, will be unable to travel to Hawaiʻi to perform due to illness. We know many of our patrons were looking forward to this special appearance, and we join her team in wishing her a full and speedy recovery.

While we share in the disappointment, Music & Artistic Director Dane Lam and the HSO artistic team immediately got to work creating a season finale worthy of this orchestra and this community.

We are thrilled to welcome back acclaimed violinist Simone Porter, whose performance of the Sibelius Violin Concerto with HSO in 2023 left a lasting impression on audiences. She joins us to perform Bruch's beloved Violin Concerto No. 1 in G Minor.

The evening will also feature the world premiere of Michael-Thomas Foumai's ʻĀina Hānau (Birth Land), a collaboration with former Hawaiʻi Poet Laureate Brandy Nālani McDougall, before concluding with Holst's epic orchestral masterpiece, The Planets.

From the ʻāina to the cosmos, this is the Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra at its most powerful and its most celebratory.
